1/2 Ton Fiver Towing
Anyone out here successfully towing a fiver with a half ton truck? If
You are could you share what you are towing (brand, model, etc) and what
You tow with? I know there are lots of models out there that say 1/2 ton but I wanted some real experience. I have a 2015 F150, super crew w/ 6 1/2' bed, 3.5 EcoBoost and Max trailer tow package. Thanks !

I am towing a Flagstaff 8528IKWS with a truck like yours. We have pulled it to Texas & Louisiana from Michigan with no problems. I have added the Roadmaster Active Suspension (RAS) and E rated tires (see my signature).

Problem is pin weight of fifth wheel and cargo carrying capacity of your 1/2 ton.
If you get a max tow package with heavy duty cargo carrying capacity, you should be find towing smaller/lighter 5th wheels.
Just because a fifth wheel weights 7500 lbs doesn't mean you can tow it if you have only 1500 lbs of cargo carrying capacity and dry pin weight is 1300 lbs.
Save yourself the headache and get a 3/4 ton. I tried the fiver with my F150 ecoboost and I'm not driving a new F350.

Looking at an F250 gasser. Just can't see the extra $8K for the diesel. I've had 3 F250 strokers and an F350
Dually gasser. They all towed very good. Good thing my cousin is a Ford dealer !! LOL!!

Look at you yellow tag on your door and get the Payload and go to the website and figure what you can tow and stay within the truck specs. You not only have to watch pin weights with 1/2 ton but also 3/4 ton and 1 ton SRW can easily be exceed also.
Towing Calculator based on Truck's Payload/CCC - Towing Planner

Your not just maxed out you are way over. Here is the thread and why you shouldn't take the advice that it "can't hardly tell it's back there".

If you already have a truck then get the spec's and match a RV to what you can pull. But if you have a RV or planning on the "one" then look at a truck that is bigger than just enough truck. Pulling with a bigger truck reduces the stress of driving it and it's safer. Been there.

I am told my 05 Silverado 1500 can't tow my 2012 Flagstaff 8528RKWS, so the 40,000 + miles I've towed it don't count.

For 5 years I was towing a 35 foot Jayco 5th at 9000 lbs, 11,000 GVWR. I towed it for 30,000 km all over North America with the same truck as yours but a 2011. I did add 10 ply tires and airbags in the back to take out bounce Just upgrades to 42 ft heritage Glen. Will be looking for a Duelly soon

We are full timers with a Rockwood lightweight 5er.
Our 5er - 2014 Forest River Rockwood Signature Ultralite 8289WS. (FR Flagstaff Classic series is the corporate twin.) Fully loaded about 9400 pounds. Changed original tires to load range E.
Our 1/2 ton - 2012 Ram Quad cab, (Sport model) 1500 5.7 Hemi, 3.93 rear axle, short bed. Added Firestone pneumatic assist bags to rear suspension. Easily pulls our rig uphill on long 7% grades.

Just remember if you ever up grade maybe the truck you buy today will not be able to handle what you buy next. Later RJD
