I would nerver attempt to pull a 5er with a 1/2 ton truck, I had a 3/4 ton and it was unconfortable towing my 12K Cedar Creek, that is why I went to a 1 ton Ram DRW. You could pull it with the 1/2 ton but I wouldnt ride with you

What kills me in all these debates, and they all turn out this way...Is people saying, "They don't even know it's back there", and people saying they can tow through any mountain pass at any speed they want....gimme a break! I just hope I am not on the same highway as them at the same time.
What's interesting to see as a common thread though, is people "normally" seem to go bigger on the next truck...that wouldn't be necessary if they "didn't know it was back there".

We did 1 three hour trip (F150 s/crew Ecoboost) pulling our 8289WS. Upon our return I went to my Ford dealer and traded it for an F250 PowerStroke.
There's something to be said for that margin of safety.

Search here and other RV forums and you'll have a day's reading material at a minimum.

Again, 3.73 Rear End, Max Tow and Max Payload are three different animals. Max Tow usually includes 3.73 or 4.1 rear end. Max payload has upgraded springs, axels wheels/tires. To haul a 5er with 4 people, the Payload Rating should over 2,100 (the receiver is 100+ for long bed, 250+ slider, 1,500+ pin now add people/gear 400+). A lot of dealers will say what's in the cab doesn't count or don't care and sell air bags.

I get tired of 1/2t bashers who've never towed a FW with one. These are not your grandfathers' 1/2 tons. I towed an 8400lb. FW with a 2004 F150 Supercrew, 5.4, 3.73, full towing package, for a few years. The previous owner did it with a 2002 F150 (don't know his specs).

A properly equipped 1/2t can safely pull a FW, within reason. I only towed up and down rte. 95 and no significant mountains but I believe it would have been okay.

Don't you know a 1 ton dually is needed to tow a popup?
Seriously, if I could have found a 5er to fit our needs to tow with my 2015 F150 I would have and not bought a 2016 F250. It was not the truck ~~ it was available 5ers and I'm too impatient to order one.

See signature.

Caveat: Upgraded transmission sump and cooling. Load range E tires. And this is the ONLY 5th wheel at 7800 loaded per scale and a 850 pound pin I would try this with. It does OK.

Upon arrival at a North Georgia State Park a guy asked me "Will that truck pull that trailer?"

After reading all the above, I'm a little surprised he didn't say "That truck will not pull that trailer.'

I did the same for 2 years. The choice to move up was available and I took advantage of the new F 250 for a deal.

So your pin weight is between 10% and 11%? Never heard of one that low, that even low for most TT. I know they recommend 15 to 25 percent 5er pin weight. How does tow with that low of pin weight? No chucking?
