2004 Ford Excursion
I am considering purchasing a 2004 Ford Excursion with the 6.0 diesel V8 to pull our Heritage Glenn BH. My f150 just isn't comfortable to travel in with our four kids and dog and I could use more power when towing! Do any of you have any experience with the 6.0? I'm just wondering about its longevity. Any advice would be much appreciated!

The biggest problem with it is the 6.0L. If it has been "bullet proofed" then it should be ok but if not they have had some big issues.

Google.
Take everything in, make an informed decision.
My opinion, ( worth what you paid for it) would be to keep looking.

Tfort: Would an Excursion with the 7.3 be better?

Some are of the opinion that the 7.3 is the best engine Ford has.
Were it me I would get the 7.3 and then add air bags and replace the 'P' metric tire (if it has them still) with LT tires.

The 7.3 is considered one of Ford's best engines. Diesel excursions are hard to come by. Get an independent mechanic to check it out for you.

My nephew is well off... enough so that he could buy anything new that he wants. He has 2 of his own kids and 7 adopted kids... and a diesel Excursion. He looked around a lot a couple of years ago, and then had a complete restoration of his Excursion. It has over 600K miles on it... and looks showroom-new...

That's awesome. We had two kids then adopted 2!! Does your nephew's excursion have a 6.0 or 7.3 Diesel engine?

I love the 7.3L. Mine has 180k on it and my dad has one with 300k and they both run like a top and they both work hard. Much better than the 6.0. It's just going to be tough to find one with a 7.3 that didn't have a million miles on it or has not been beat to death. I wish they were still making the excursion so you could get the 6.7. It is also a good engine from what I have seen.

I've got a buddy who's brother's company does excursion, 6 door and raptor conversions. I guess they make them for people all over the US and even local dealers will have him convert new trucks. Its customautosbytim.com . He has his shop just north of Edmond, Ok, in Guthrie. You will have about as much in one of these as you will a new escalade.

His is the 6.0 but it's had all the mods and fixes... and has been bullet-proof for the last 400K miles.

AGREED do your research BEFORE you buy a 6.0 PSD so you can make an informed decision
BULLET PROOFING isn't cheap but nothing with any diesel is

Thanks for all of your help. I have a few options that have a 7.3 and I have a buddy that's a mechanic that offered to check it out thoroughly before I make a purchase. Thanks again!
