2005 Durango Hemi
Hi, I was given this truck and would prefer to use it as it was free! Its an 05 Durango Hemi 5.7 w/tow package. The wheel base is 119.2. The gvwr is 6600, says its a 1400 payload in the truck. WDH is approx 100lbs. Gcvr 14000lbs.
The TT I am looking at is 16 Mini Lite 1907, 20ft. Its 3150 dry, 3860 gvwr, 386 tongue weight.
All the numbers seem appropriate. Its 2 people traveling. Only other heavy thing would be generator thats 82lbs. Rest would be clothing, food, tools etc.
I know this is asked so often! New to towing.
Thanks!!!

You won't know the answers until you get it on a scale, ready for travel.
Load capacity and axle weight limits in the tow vehicle is usually the limiting factor. What's your door jamb sticker say?
IMO, short wheelbase tow vehicles will sway more than something longer.

I think you'll be ok, but as noted above you will need to watch the loaded tongue weight. My wife's D has 7100# GVW, our tongue is at 740# (from 601# dry) w/ WDH engaged, and we're barely under on the axles (I've cat scaled our setup). To make ours work (it's a bigger trailer) with just my wife and I, everything goes in the trailer except a 60# extension ladder and maybe 5# of misc stuff.
If a CAT scale is close, fill up the D, take your wife for a drive and get weighed. For $13 it will tell you exactly how much room you have to work with.
Good luck and have fun.

Front/rear axle: 3600lbs/3900lbs. Tires on TV amd TT are D range, goodyear endurance rated 2040lbs.

You will be fine. Those years of Durango and Aspen are built on a full size frame, and share a ton of parts with a 1500 Ram. The engine, transmission, brakes, axles, cooling system, suspension, etc are all shared. They are the most capable SUV ever made by Dodge older or newer.

I thought the Durango was SUV, not a truck.

it is an SUV, that generation was built on a hybrid frame ram/Dakota. Very stout, not small vehicle. Build and power similar to a chevy Tahoe

If you have a good WDH with sway control....load her up and hit road. Enjoy. That year was probably one of their finest for the Durango.

It is what we used for years, but upgraded to a 2500 Suburban so we could have payload AND towing ability. The Aspen had similar tow rating but about 1/2 the payload rating, now we can tow and haul 7 people at the same time. Not to mention the Suburban was 1/2 the price albeit twice as used.

I had an 06. Great vehicle. Only thing I can say is if you don't have a limited slip dif, add one. Ours couldn't pull away from a stop sign without slipping the right rear and that was unloaded.
