Reading your posts I'm gonna say you're sticking with your tacoma. I don't doubt its build quality and yes I think it will hold up to the task. But I have towed a 25ft 4500lb TT with a buick rainier which is a midsize SUV (trailblazer) with the 5.3 V8 which had a 7200lb towing capacity. Oh it had plenty of power but the light weight of the midsize SUV and shorter length was the problem. I had a WDH and dual sway and it only took one bad day of 40mph sidewinds to change my mind about that setup. Now if you're really going to stick with the taco please invest in a very very good hitch set up like pro pride or hensley

I pulled a 27' lighter tt with a 2005 Silverado with a 4.8 V8 and did not feel comfortable doing it. As popular as these Tacomas are, you might cut a deal with a dealer to trade up to a used Tundra 5.7.

DCarver1987 is right, I am going to tow this RV with my Tacoma... I have no choice RIGHT NOW. I have to bring the RV 40 miles home so I can watch it sit until April. I intended to obtain some insight from those who have done it and some of you have provided that. However, many would rather imply that I'm crazy or stupid for even considering it or accuse me of trying to direct the replies to only be what I want to hear.

I know the Tacoma is not as capable as a full-size...knew that before posting. All I wanted was first hand knowledge from those who have done it. So...I surrender and admit I'll have to learn the hard way without the benefit of other's experience besides what I have been able to glean from a few of the replies.

FWIW, I tried to tell the guy on I-81 Southbound the other day he shouldn't be pulling his rather large RV with his Tacoma, but he was passing me.

I would rather see someone like goduc , who knows they are at the limit and will make sure the tv and trailer are in good shape and drive accordingly. Than some of the setups I see that are driving like they are not towing anything with a setup that looks like a V.

I drive a 2013 Frontier 4x4 SV V6 extended cab, with basically the same towing limits as your Tacoma. I rented a 22' Wildwood 195BH bunkhouse TT for a week just to get a feel for it. IMHO I have to agree with others that say the 29' is way too much for a Tacoma or Frontier. The tongue weight of 400# was not a problem. It's the constant strain of pulling 4000# plus on the V6 up and down hills at highway speeds that get to you. Just like pulling a parachute. If you've already committed to the purchase, you can get it home with the Tacoma, just won't be much fun pulling it on trips. You can always upgrade your TV later on.

I have a 2013 Frontier crew 4x4. That I pull a 25 ft 2013 MiniLite . The trailer weighs 4900 pretty much loaded, the Frontier weighs 4600 which totals 9500 . The combine wt rating for the Frontier is 11150 . I live in co and use it in the mountains of co. and Ut. And drag it to Az in the winter. I will grant you it would pull much easer with a $50000 pickup but for the few times I use it doesn't work for me. I have drove a 40 foot motor home all over the U.S. And as far as wind that Frontier and trailer is no worse the that 40 foot sq. box.

The first step is knowing that you are at/over the limits, the determining if that is acceptable to you or if you need to make a change.

I'm in a similar situation right now.

Have a Ram 1500, towing a Shamrock 21SSL. It's okay without any toys, but once I put the quad (quads) on, I'm over my GVWR. I'm still under my GCVWR and GAWR. The truck can handle it powerwise no problem, but the payload / vehicle ride is where I suffer.

Trying very hard not to convince myself that I need to get into a 2500 truck.

That's good info. I'm looking at purchasing a Mini-Lite 1905, which should be 800 to 1,000# under your weight. I feel more comfortable pulling something that is well under all the ratings rather than pushing the limits. If I listened to the RV Dealers, they would have me buying a fifth wheel, no matter that my front wheels aren't touching the ground.

I used to haul a Coachman 249 FQB, (I recall dry wt around 4,500 lbs) with a 2006 Tacoma DC. It had the 6 sp standard. I was within all specs of truck. Power was fine, braking was fine and with WDH it rode level. The killer was sway induced by passing buses and transports.

I used the Taco for one season and moved on to Tundra.

The Taco willl do the job, bit in some traffic and wind conditions, it will not be a pleasant experience. It can be done safely by slowing down and avoiding heavy traffic.
