2008 Chevy Silverado obsolete parts.

Well I had a bracket on my drivers seat poke through the seat fabric and put a nice hole in it.
Called gm to get a replacement seat back cover and was totally surprised to hear there obsolete.
REALLY?

I don't want it "fixed"
I don't want to put a "cover" on it.

I want a new seat back cover.

I've got an email into one place that may have one but no reply yet.

Gm Dealer search ended up me banging my head against the wall.

GM number 25863492

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried any JUNK YARDS. They have a lot of chevys in them. No pun intended. I thought that the law was they had to keep parts for 10 years? Miller time should be able to point you in the right direction. Or steal the OLD COOTS.

We've got an upholstery guy in the area that can make almost any
seat look new.
I would not even try to get a GM "cover" I'd get someone to sew
me a new one!

Yeah, well it makes sense. 2008 was the year the GM trim plant closed it's doors here.

'Guess what, there's life after Lear'

I don't know if the Silverado was one of the ones they produced, but even if it wasn't, just the fact of the plant closing would have had repercussions on the supply chain of all the seats that year.

That was a thought but I use my truck Dailey so I thought an oe new cover could be put on during the weekend.
Other issue is the only place reputable enough to do this fix is 60 miles from me. "yes I live in the sticks" and 3 day turn around.

At $140.00 the oem seat back cover looked like the most economical solution and I could do it myself.

I don't know what it'll run you, but way back in the day when I was looking to replace fabric in my Saturn I was looking at Katzkin. I believe they had a 'DIY' kit you could purchase with the seat cover that had everything you needed to install yourself.

(Note: I never did buy so I don't actually know what was in the kit.)

Gm was above the law in 2008, they probably didn't have the money to make the required parts inventory and got dispensation, they did that for a lot of things.

A few pics.
Bracket wore through the foam and then eventually the seat fabric.

A complete Saturn SC1 kit was only around 650 (back in 2002). But I was thinking more along the lines of whether you could just buy the install kit, not necessarily the leather too.
