2008 Trailblazer as Tow Vehicle
I am trying to determine if my TV, 2008 Chey Trailblazer will handle a trailer I am looking to buy. The TV is rated at 5400 lb towing capacity, 400 lb tongue weight (900 lb with WD hitch). The trailer specs:
Dry Hich Weight 490 lb.
Unloaded Vehicle Weight 3,139 lb.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating 4,410 lb.
Cargo Carrying Capacity 1,233 lb.
We have an empty nest and plan to use this on weekends within a 100 mile radius of our home in south Louisiana. The only hills will be interstate over passes. I know that the correct WD hitch with Sway control in very important, but my questions is, am I asking too much from my TV for this trailer?

How long is the trailer? The Trailblazer has a short wheelbase. There is a "wheelbase/trailer length" chart, repeated in the Nissan towing post. You also need to know the Gross Combined Weight Rating of the Trailblazer. Add loaded vehicle to loaded trailer weight and see if you are below Gross Combined Vehicle Weight. You may tow it, but you won't like the wind when semi's pass you on the interstate, regardless of how much sway control you may have.
