2008 Wildwood 31QBSS

Ok so I keep getting mixed answers on tow capacity. I called a local RV dealer and they told me that we could tow up to 7400lb, our local Ford dealer told me 8000 and I've read varying answers on various forums. We are looking at an 2008 Wildwood 31QBSS.

2000 Ford Expedition, 5.4L V8, factory trailer towing package, 3.55 axle. Any opinions without making me feel like an idiot, new to all this and wanting to be safe. We won't be going more than 20 minutes from home but don't want an accident.

The 31QBSS lists at about 10,000 lbs GVWR and right at 7,000 lbs empty.

The 2000 Expy lists at;
7800 lbs for the 2wd with 3.55 axle & 17" wheels,
6900 lbs for the 4wd with 3.55 axle & 17" wheels.

Doesn't look good to me.

That's a generation 1 Expedition and with the 5.4 and factory tow package it is rated at 8,100 lbs.

You said that you wanted to camp 20 minutes from home but what kind of roads are we talking about, country or Interstates?

My 2 cents, first the TT is heavy for that vehicle. We had the same TT in the 07 version then they called it a 30BHSS but the same layout and specs, I towed that with a Chevy 1/2 ton the first few months, close to home and it worked, knew she was back there and she pushed a little. But we got to the local campgrounds. When we decided that we wanted to venture further we upgraded to a 3/4 ton TV. I guess why I'm explaining this is that, what you are asking is something that you have to decide, local roads, close to home can i do it. Technical responses which you are going to get here is the TV is not correct for that much weight.

Another item to think about, knowing that the TV is rated at 8100 and the TT dry is around 7400, based on what you stated, what type of camping are you planning, Full hookups, if so then you do not need to carry water, waste, etc. idea being you keep the weight as low as possible for transport.

We will just be towing locally, no interstate, flat back roads - 20 minute max drive. We also don't have to take water as we fill up when we get there and dump before we go home. So it will be fairly close to dry weight.

Thanks for the advice.

If you really want to know what your expy can tow, get your VIN and call Ford. They can look it up for you.

Tried that Bama, they said the VIN tells them nothing. I've talked to 3 different dealers, all 3 have given me different amounts I can pull.
