2013 Dodge 3500 Dually
WOW!
Just read about this beast having a tow rating of 30,010 lbs @ 850 ft/lb torque and a few neat engine mechanical features...starting production by February...ought to be interesting to see this one in action

It definitely sounds impressive. I've only read one article, but it's pretty amazing the numbers that they're boasting!
I'll admit, I'm a little jelly..

I saw some pics a while ago..They have a new notched tailgate (i.e 5er ready) with the integrated backup camera. Obviously the cam doesnt help with hitching a 5er...but with my CC and long bed I love the cam in parking lots. I am hoping that tailgate can be retrofittted to my 2012.

Showed my wife the pictures of the truck. She likes it. Might be possible down the road. She wants this to be the end all be all truck purchase. Not we could do this with this truck. Sounds good to me.

I like it a lot! I have been looking and I think I will wait till they get a model year in on the new model and get any bugs worked out. Any word on the new Aisin transmission? I just wonder if it could be as good as an Allison. That and the Cummins would be quite the setup!

They have an add on TV for the 1500 hemi ram with 23K or so tow capacity. Dodge is playing numbers games as combined gross vehicle rating is going to be way lower than the weight of the truck and that huge trailer the add says it can tow. As you all now, the Toyota Tundra can tow the friggen space shuttle. And if you go way back somebody's 1/2 tone was towing a 747 on those awesome TV ads.
You guys all know that a 3/4 ton truck is pushing it's limits to tow a 15K pound 5th wheel. How the hell is a 1 ton going to tow 30K pounds at 60mph?
I love Ram trucks too, but I know when I hear misleading add claims. Start reading boys.

I did a little research and found that Aisin is a pretty big time transmission producer. It seems as though they make a tranny for at least one vehicle from every automaker. In fact, I am fairly certain that our Sequoia's tranny is made by Aisin. Also, the chassis cab Rams have been using a variant of this trans for some time now. I guess maybe this transmission won't be much of a risk after all, I'm pretty pumped about it!

I was thinking at the begining of this thread, that this must be a joke.
If these numbers are true, I believe that dot, your taged classification tax like FET, and cdl requirements will change the rating in the end, probably because of liability.
Ever notice how many trucks and flatbed trailers and such are tag rated under 26k, even though they can handle more? Over 26k that you have a federal excise tax and cdl is required.
I wonder what a class 4 or 5 would tow, heck you wouldn't even need a class 8 truck till 200k

Just read the link. How does a 3500hd have a 100lb more gcwr than a 5500 cab-n-chassis? Not trying to pick, just don't understand how their doing it.

I think it is the gearing in the rear end. Or something we don't know yet.

The sae towing standard was being followed by most manufacturers for 2012 model year, including dodge . Toyota lead the way , starting in 2010 or 2011.

It almost looks like they rebadged the 3500 to the new 2500 and so on, the torque number is impressive though.

All manufactures were supposed to use the new standards for model year 2013. Toyota started in 2011, GM it is unsure. Ford is iffy as is Dodge. So we will see.

According to another post on FRF GM is using the SAE std this year and has released their new tow numbers, most of which are within a few hundred of their old numbers. There was one exception, one 3/4 ton model lost over 4k towing weight. Ford and Dodge are expected to follow suit this year when they release their 2013 numbers.

Good for the Dodge boys. 30K with a 5th wheel in 2013. You'll also notice in 2013 they are now running DEF injection like the rest of the pack.
New problem will be guys will be out there with over 26K combined weight and no CDL. That's a no no. The way I understand it is if your combined gross vehicle weight is over 26K, you need a CDL if you are towing commercially or private/rec use. I see MANY more commercial/DOT cops running around in Minnesota were I live. They are in Plymouth on I494/Hwy55 South quite often during lunch. With the states basically bankrupt, DOT is clamping down and issuing big fine tickets.
