Gearing is key

I have a 3.5 ecoboost HD tow package with 3.73 rear end. Towing a fifth wheel with 7800 dry weight, 9200 loaded up. We've been all over the place, east to west, north to south, the mountains of Alberta to the shores of Nova Scotia. Tows like a champ, pass many motorhomes and trailers going over mountain passes. Usually kicks into fourth gear but doesn't struggle. My tow limit on the truck is 11,300 so have plenty of spare tonnage. Newer ones with the 10 speed and aluminum truck can tow 12,000 lbs. Hard to find, but the key is that 3.73 gearing.

it looks like the gearing is what is going to be what limits you here.

We have an F150 supercrew, 3.5 eco-boost, max tow, 3.73 gears. e rated 10 ply tires. It tows my 829FKSS Flaghstaff great. Much better than my 2011, same truck but with a 5.0.

If you have the factory brake controller and proper tow package, you could find a trailer with a GVWR of about 7500 and still have plenty of payload to spare.

7500 x 15% (tongue weight) = A tongue weight of 1,125

2589 - 1125 = 1464 worth of capacity for people and gear in the bed of the truck.

For comparison, the F250 in my signature has a payload capacity of 2766 (my old 2011 F150 Crewcab, 4x4 Ecoboost had 1529). I was on cloud 9 to get 1200+ more payload.

To keep things safe and stable, I wouldn't want to go with a trailer more than 30' total in length. The trailer in my signature is 29'7" and that was plenty long for the 145" F150 wheelbase.

The F250 with 156" wheelbase and higher payload was a welcomed upgrade.

Your F150 is a good one.

Ok.. folks.. didnt know there would be this much interest in the payload sticker.. I think I can solve the mystery. Nothing shady happening here. No problems from the dealer or with the truck.

I bought the truck new.. have all the paperwork. VIN is correct on everything except the payload sticker.

A lady hit my truck, in the side, a couple of years ago. Some damage to the extra cab rear door.. that's where the payload sticker is.

The shop repainted that door.. they probably pulled it off to paint.. and some careless painter lost it.. or just picked up the wrong one and put it on.

As the late Paul Harvey used to say, 'the rest of the story".
Thanks, mystery solved.

You have to realize that the payload capacity is more important than towing capacity.
Nearly all tow vehicles will run out of payload capacity way before reaching max towing capacity.
Therefore the interest in the payload capacity sticker, more than your towing capacity.

Never said payload was not important.. I understand. I was talking about the sticker.. right or wrong sticker. Thanks.
