+1 You definitely want to run a feed to the battery. Too many times running down a car battery will significantly reduce its lifespan. It is amazing to read about how much electrical "stuff" is still "On" even when the vehicle is not running and parked.

For me it was just cheaper, easier, and eliminates any warranty concerns, to go with a dolly...

I will be towing a 2015 Ford Escape on a tow dolly for the first time this weekend. I was told I didn't need to do anything but pull it up, put in park and strap and go. Dolly we have has lights. Is this true? Doing a trial run before our 1000+ mile trip at end of month. Thanks in advance.

Read the Owners Manuals for both your Escape and the dolly carefully to make sure you catch any "gotchas" in advance. In the Ford Owners Manual read the Recreational Towing section very carefully. For example an AWD Escape cannot be dolly towed.

With my 2015 C-Max it is just a matter of "pull it up, put in park and strap and go".
