Exclamation 2013 RAM 3500 Laramie Mega Cab 4x3 w/Rambox 5th wheel pin clearence

Hi everyone,

Just took delivery of a 2013 RAM 3500 Laramie Mega Cab 4x3 w/Rambox and now am seeing issue where using my Hijacker Autoslide with my Forrest River Sterling they say box opening is to narrow and pin arm will hit the bed sides.

Anyone ran into this before?

Suggestion is to have fabrication shop add 4" or 6" frame extension installed and drop the pin housing to the lowest set of mounting holes to gain the clearance needed, opinions?

Dave

I don't have the same thing, but I can say between my RetraxPro bed cover (it comes in from the side of the bed) and my pin box shroud/cover, there is contact between the two to the point that I've chipped the shroud/cover. The pin box doesn't, but had it been more narrow (I'm not sure how narrow the RAM box makes things).

Anyway, long story short- I can see needing to do something in some situations.

Ran into this with my fathers truck. We had to install a lift kit for the hitch in the bed of the truck. The head of his pullrite superglide sat too low and posed the same problem.

I am unfamiliar with the hitch you mentioned but I'd suggest seeing if the lift is a possibility for your situation.

Researched your hitch a bit and it has 3 vertical adjustments built in. Where is yours set? If it is at the lowest setting you can raise it up and should get the pin box above your bed rails!

They really don't recommend ANY fifth wheel hitch useage in a truck with the RAM boxes.

As was stated, too narrow of an opening for the pinbox to turn. You can lift it, but watch when you get an off level turn or back into a raised site, as the pinbox will now drop and catch the bed.

If you could find a shorter (old style) pinbox ...and I mean shorter from the pinbox mounting to the camper to the king pin. You would probably have enough clearance with the 8' box for normal maneuvering and then the slider for tighter spots.

Just a thought...

The MegaCab is only available in a short box.

What about the Reese Revolution?
