I've owned both a 6.0 gas 2500HD and my current Duramax which is my first Diesel. Both are my daily drivers as well and I will never go back to gas. Fuel costs went down (even before it all dropped) and well power....no comparison!

I found the Duramax sucks fuel the first 5 miles or so but after the economy begins. So if you do short daily runs theirs no savings.

WOW! And I thought when I mentioned $1.03 difference in a previous post that would be at the upper end....but $1.50...that's insane...no reason for it really!

I have a 2002 Silverado 2500HD with 6 liter and 4.10 rear. Towing my previous 8500+ lbs trailer at 60 mph, I got between 9 and 10.5mpg depending on flat and level or mountains. Now towing my new trailer around 5000 lbs., I get 10.5 to 12.0mpg at 60 mph. 65 to 70mph equals less, 50 to 55mph, fractionally better. Got 156K on it and still runs fine with no engine or transmission problems YET. Noticed if you blast away from signals or passing gear up steeper grades all day, you will get lower mph.

Does the gasser need premium fuel? I thought I read it needs that to avoid engine knock.

I have a 09 2500HD with 6.0. Loaded with a 8.5k camper I get 8 to 10 mpg. No trailer I get 14 mpg and highway about 16 mpg.

Agewon, really? I have a 2014 3500 Duramax Silverado and I get 20-21 mpg consistently on the hwy going between 75-80 mph. We haven't purchases our 5ver yet so I can't give you tow mileage.

My travel to work last year was 3 miles city driving at 30-40 mph with about a dozen start/stops then about 10 miles on the parkway at about 75-80 mph.
This year it's more country driving, 12 miles flat land, 40-60 mph.
