Just got back from 3441km (2138 mi) trip to Banff from Winnipeg. Worst days with cross winds I got 37L/100km (6.36 mpg US), and best day was 27L/100km (8.71 mpg US) (tailwind and on hilly terrain). Avg for trip (with only a couple hundred km without TT) was 28L/100km (8.4 mpg US). Only used regular unleaded, and most of the drive in cruise. Only used Tow Haul in Alberta with the rolling hills and mountains. Definitley helped on the downhills. Based on what others are showing, I feel I should get better mileage. I am underweight, according to scales (though first day I was heavy on the TV drive axle). Would midgrade improve my mileage??

Curios, how fast were you driving? I find above 62-63 mph milage drops fast. Also, did you lock out 6th gear?

I have found no difference locking out 6th gear other than more engine noise. I just let the tranny do it's thing.

Just my own experience, the Ecoboost is really happy at about 2,000 rpm. My mpg went up about 1 mpg when locking out 6 th and driving at 62 mph.

I don't know what gear you are running but I have the 3:73 and the Max tow package. I seem to get the same whether I run 6th or 5th. I never run faster than 62 MPH towing the TT. Now without the TT it's a little different story.

Averaging 62-64mph (ok, on last leg home with tailwind I was doing 65mph). Didn't know I could lock out 6th gear (or how). Wouldn't 6th gear help mileage as it knocks the rpm to about 1800? Maybe I am missing something? Also, I have a max tow package with 3.73 gear.

I don't think the gearing matters, if you drive less than 65 you will see the best performance, I personally love the power to torque ration on the F-50 and since I am not pulling anything over 11,200 I am ok with the EB. If you drive harder you will see MPG decrease

My 2011 Ecoboost seemed to really like towing at about 2,000 rpm. I always used tow/haul and locked out 6 gear. Rarely downshifts and is at the right torque for pulling. That's my experience anyway after pulling my 7,500 pound toy hauler over 18,000 miles. I will try towing with my new F150 Ecoboost this weekend as we head out west.

To lock out any gear, move the up/down switch on the shifter. I hope this helps.

Towed our 9K+ TT home yesterday. Had some tailwind on first 1/3 of the trip- 10mph or so. Terrain was hilly with almost constant 1-3 degree ups and downs. Last 2/3 of trip was with side winds that increased over the duration of the trip. Cruise was set at 65 when on the highway, but there were several towns with some lights I had to stop for. Didn't baby it to inflate the numbers- just drove like I always do. Actual drive time for the trip was only ~ 3 hours, so this includes around 2 hours of idle time and hitching/unhitching. Seems about right for the weight of your TT plus weather. I had bad winds going from NJ to VA in April pulling 7,00# TT got 9.5 at best
