2015 3500HD hitch and trailer hooks

Have new truck and trailer, 2015 3500HD. this thing has a large hitch and the hooks from the trailer chain wont fit. looking at options to hook up safety chains. went and purchased some large D-rings, to big. still trying to find the best option.
Does anyone have one of these truck and know what I am referring to, if so what did you do?

I bought 3/8" Curt safety hooks at Amazon for my Chevy 3500HD. They are the perfect fit, and they will fit onto your chain.

Here's a link to what I am using:

If it is the 3500 Chevy I needed to visit the local trailer shop and buy some larger hooks. I also had to lengthen the chains since they were now too short.

EDIT: The link above Bruce posted is what I put on the chains.

Just make sure the smaller chain is rated to the load in the event the chains to to catch the trailer..

As always, be sure to measure your chain lengths with the chains crossed to the other side.

I did the same as Nomad297. The hooks are rated for considerably more weight than the safety chains on the trailer. I took the opportunity to add one chain link to the hook.

I have the chevy k3500 with the 2 1/2 receiver. My hooks fit bit i have to put the hook into the eye hole sideways first then twist it. Its tight but works.

I had the same problem on my 2015 2500HD...undoubtedly the same hitch. I bought two clevis's and two chain-repair-quick-links at Tractor Supply. Here is a picture of my set-up. Works great! (ooops...picture posted sideways, but you get the idea.)

Chevy made a change to there receivers why I do not know as most hooks will not fit without a slight mod. My hooks on my trailer had little safety snaps that made it so the hook would not go around in the slot of the receiver. I just removed them and all is good. Later RJD

Use D-rings that exceed chain capacity. Fits fine, Purchased at local trailer supply house.

I use these too on my safety cables on my boat trailer.
The normal S type hooks that are on my car hauler will slide onto the hole on the side of the hitch on my gmc and seem to work well, they just dont go through the side and front....side only.

Heres my car trailer hooked up and boat trailer hooks. I guess my S hooks will go thru both holes. But a big clevis would work to go thru the hitch

I like that idea, what size shackle is that in there? 2" 3"?

Doc, that is, I believe, a 2"shackle. It may be 2 /12 inches, but I know it isn't as big as a 3". The pin wont fit in from the top side. It has to go in from the bottom, but I just tightened the hell out of it and it isn't going to back itself out. Still, probably a good idea to check it every once in a while. All of those pieces came from Tractor Supply, and they let me take various pieces out into the parking lot to make sure everything fit before I bought anything...in fact, one of their salesmen came out to offer advice.

Thanks, I will hit them up this week.

I used to use zip ties or bailing wire to keep the shackles from backing off on my jeep.
