Took delivery of my 2015 2500 Mega 4x4 Cummins in April, I love this truck! 19 mpg without 5er, 11 - 12 mpg with it. I never wanted a diesel engine because they were noisy and stinky, it is neither. It pulls our 5er like it is not there, so quite in the cab even with the windows down. If you have the option get the cargo camera, very handy for hitching the fifth wheel. Auto folding mirrors are a must because they are way out there. The only change I would make now would be to get the 3500.

Tow vehical

I did put air bags on the 3500 really helps smooth out ride with load. It is 4wd with 410 rear end and the 48re transmission. We change the trams fluid at 15k especially when towing. When we need a rebuild I'll put in a refinished one with upgraded shift kit and higher output torque converter. We generally always haul on trips with grades and do a fair amount of beach and desert camping.
The problems noted above must be a lemon trany hopefully all covered by warranty except hassle and repair time.

Well, this is where the DW comes in with her response, "the price difference is not that much, and if we are going to upgrade in a few years to a larger 5th wheel, or toy hauler, why not get the 3500"?

The price difference between the to is only about $2000 for the crewcab that we are looking at, which if I am looking at getting a truck that will last me for 10 - 15 years and tow anything I want, I am leaning towards a 3500 (now). The only issue is that I need to look at bed clearance for the current 8289ws that I have.

Good question, she asked me that the other day. I am glad I didn't pull the trigger. (YET)

What model airbags are you using? And does the 3500 come with the independent rear suspension or is it an axle? The 2500 has a really smooth ride.

The thing to remember is that for every bad story there will be many more good. I had a 98.5 Ram 3500 DRW Quad cab 5.9 24v It was one of the first 24 valve engines made, and was the best truck I've ever owned. Not one major breakdown just the general stuff. Lift pumps and regular maintenance. 17 years and about 200k later in 2014 it died due to the fact that I rear ended another truck in TX on Interstate 45 bent frame by by totaled. And upgrade engine you need to uo grade you tranny to.

The trucks from Ram Truck are still up there on my list of a future replacement. I am waiting to see what Nissan has to offer with their Cummins.

I hope to get at least the 200K plates from Cummins some day on my truck right now I am a little shy of 100K. I will probably order the 100K plates earlier next spring from Cummins.

Enjoy your Ram truck with the 6.7L Cummins. Did you get the Aisin or the 68RFE auto?
Mine's the 68RFE... Not sure how many miles I'll get outa mine. Only sure that DW has told me to make it last... She has hard, bony little fists... She says it's my last new truck... What's a bruise or two among friends?

Now to get that trailer upgrade I want...

I put the ride rite on. They completely level truck with the 14000lb trailer or a cord of wood. The 06 has leaf springs so without a load it is a little stiff. It took several trips to settle on air pressure for the 5er but have landed on 30 psi. Makes for a smooth ride. I plan to lower the pullrite hitch 1.5" with the lowering kit.

Full disclosure; I'm a Toyota guy. I have owned a LOT of them. My last was a 2012 Tundra Crew Cab 5.7 and I LOVED that truck. Then I bought the Wildcat Maxx 28RKX. Fully loaded I was within 600lbs of legal towing capacity and 100lbs of tongue weight. Flat ground, it towed like a champ but when I hit the mountains of Washington, it was straining and even though I could do the speed limit, I had no buffer. In the mountains it would average 6-8 mpg. With a small 26 gallon tank, range became a factor. Friends that are professional truck drivers pushed me to get a 3/4 ton diesel. I agonized over the decision. After a LOT of conversations and research I settled on the diesel 2015 RAM 2500 Laramie Limited Crew Cab 4X4 last January. I love the all black Longhorn interior, very classy. Sounds weird but I really like how "thick" the heated steering wheel is. It fits my big hands. The heated and ventilated seats are nice. It tows without breaking a sweat and range has vastly improved. This is a very nice truck and Ram (Don't call it Dodge) has really upped their game.

That said, it hasn't been without issues. First month one of the TPMS monitors went out. Recall on the monitors, they replaced all 4. Six weeks later, Check Engine light. Software update. Then 150 miles from home on Memorial Day weekend, batteries stopped charging. No service departments open and long story short, made it home on batteries alone. Turns out when manufactured, they hadn't fully connected the wire bundle to the alternator. It had backed itself off just enough to lose contact but still look like it was connected.

Even with all that, I'm growing to love this truck too. But if Toyota ever comes out with a 3/4 ton diesel.......

Smile Ram truck rear suspension

Not sure what you mean by "independent rear suspension." The 2500 Ram has a 5 link coil rear suspension, but it is still a solid rear axle. Independent rear suspensions are not solid axle type, but actually each wheel acts independently of the other. (Like the Corvette or new Mustang). Just sayin!

We have a 2005 Ram 2500 diesel. I call it the monster truck, as it is the large, 4-door with 4 wheel drive. It is my husband's truck. It has almost 300,000 miles. Runs like a champ. He loves it so much, he's afraid of ever having to buy a newer one.

I talked with a few (4) of my friends that have Ford diesels (2010 - 2012 models) and they are continually complaining of issues with the engine and systems. Why the Dodge? Well I do like the ride with the independent rear suspension, and the price range for a Crew Cab is about $55,000.00 for the one that I like priced out.
I just bought a 2014 ram 2500 crew cab long bed 2wd diesel a month ago ,so I don't have any long term info on the diesel, but I have had four other rams and have completely loved them.
what I can tell you on the diesel is that on our first trip to Utah on the fourth of july, it was by far, THE BEST towing experience that I have ever had period. The truck tows flawlessly through flats, hills, down grades, and through windy roads. It doesn't search for gears and pulls like nobody's business. The exhaust brake is wonderful and I actually enjoyed the pull arriving at our destination with full energy reserves. I think that this is the start of a beautiful relationship.

Btw, towing about 7500 pound 28ft tt loaded plus more with gear.
I'm getting 23 highway unloaded, 16/17 in town, and 12.5 towing

I have owned a diesel truck from all the big guys and also a few germans as well.

1995 6.5 TD, 2003 F250 7.3, 2007 F250 6.0, 2003 Dodge 2500 5.9, 2009 Chevy 3500 Dmax, 2010 Dodge 3500 6.7, and currently, 2014 Chevy 2500 Dmax.

The wife had a 2010 V=BMW X5 diesel, and a 2012 Jetta TDI.

They all have their pros and cons but one thing is for sure, they all kick gasser's asses in the towing department!!! LOL

My two favorites were the 2010 Dodge 3500 DRW for my big tag trailer. It was deleted and tuned but the tow miliage was still only decent and my current 2014 Chevy 2500 with my 5th wheel. Deleted and tuned as well but the tow miliage is about 2-2.5 mpg better then my Dodge was.
