2015 Ford Expedition w/max

Hi everyone,

I am looking to purchase my 1st TT, the 2905ss. I currently don't have the right TV. I wanted to know if anyone has looked into towing a GWR 7700# TT with the 2015 Expedition, TC 9200#. Any help is appreciated.

Do your homework on the tongue weight. Power wise it will be fine. I looked that unit it up and it looked to have a max gvw just under 7000#. We have a 2012 exp max with the 5.4

I tow a Surveyor 260 with a 2012 Expedition with tow package. Our 260 is not quite as heavy as what you are looking at and comes in about 4800 lbs dry and about 6000-6500 loaded for us. The Expedition tows it quite well and I have never had any issues. I used to tow the same trailer with a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 and I would say that once I got the weight distribution dialed in, the Expedition tows comparably and even better in some ways than the truck. The only downside is our trim version of the Expedition has 20-inch wheels with P rated tires. It has never been close to white knuckle but I can at times feel what I assume is some "softness" associated with the P tire. It is about time to replace and I am looking for LT tires now but unfortunately there are not a lot of options for 20-inch rims. Good luck and as Alberta said, run your numbers. I was nervous going from a truck to an SUV so I did them about 5 different ways under various loading scenarios, i.e. going out for a weekend, going for a week, just my family in the Expy, having my kids friends come along, etc. I have no regrets with the Expy for my trailer and it works much better for my family.

There are definitely 20 inch LT tires out there. I was able to find them when I had my F150 and I think Dustman is running some on his with 20 inch wheels

I have a 2015 King Ranch Expedition and I switched out the P rated tires for LT tires. I went with the Michelin LTX MS2 in a 20". As I write this we are on our way to pickup our Mini-Lite 2503S. I have the tires aired up to 60psi and the ride is a little stiffer but not bad. I hope this helps!

your issue won't be pulling it, it will be your payload

ie, tongue weight (real, not the listed weight on the brochure) and weight of passengers and gear. Also driver is calculated 150... I may be over that (just slightly, lol)

Thanks, Alberta8311ss. That is reassuring for us. It was hard to find members that towed with an Expedition.

Thanks, chof16. I completely forgot about the tires. We are doing a trial run (renting a 2011 25bh amerilite) soon and I need to check those on our current SUV. I'll get all of this together at some point.

Mbornzo, absolutely this helps. I need as much information as I can digest. I am taking it all in. I do not want to be on the road with an overweight/improperly equipped TV or TT with wife and kids.

Fx2 is correct. I am running the bfgoodrich t/a ko2 that is the factory 275/55-20 size. It is a load range d tire and was the only lt tire I could find in that size. I know there are more options if you step up to a 285.

I just purchased a 2504s and tow it with a 2014 expedition el with max tow package. Only expirence so far is towing it back from the dealership 3-4 hours away. Gas mileage was worse then I expected, staying between 65-70 was around 7mpg...was hoping for a little better then that. Curious what others are getting?
Second , The mirrors are not meant for towing...ordered some add on ones I read good reviews about on some forums! so hopefully that will fix that. Other then that towed great.

I tow a grey wolf 29dsfb with a 2010 expedition max. Dry weight on the trailer is 6500 lbs. pulls fine without any issues. I even have 24" rims on the expy.

The only advice I can give for better mpg is to slow down. If I set cruise at 65, mpg will be 9-10. any faster and the mpg will drop just as fast.
