2015 Ford F150 Features

I am getting ready to buy an F150 King Ranch 3.5 EB w/ 3.55 gears. I originally wanted to get the 2.7 EB, but can't get all of the features I want with that engine. Not real concerned with gas as my current truck / SUV only gets 7mpg when traveling, so anything beyond that will be an improvement. Also, hate the idea of not having good towing mirrors and near max weight limit of the vehicle...

Any specific features you guys have that you would not do without?

thanks,

Gary

Get the HD package... It allows more payload without a hit in MPG.

Max Trailer Tow Package is on the one I am looking at. I read somewhere that the towing capacity was 10,700 but I cannot find where that was stated. I would have thought there would be more towing capacity. There are so many combinations that it is hard to decipher what exactly is the best layout...

Ford went and changed the option packages for the 2015 so I am not as up to speed on them as I used to be. It used to be that if you had the tow-max package you would get the 3.73's, tow mirrors, upgraded radiator and transmission cooler, integrated brake control, and #7700 GVWR, but I think it has changed.

To get the max towing capability you will need the 3.73's. That will get you up to the 11,500-12,200 tow range, depending on cab configuration and 2 or 4 wheel drive. The Heavy-Duty-Payload-package will get you the #7850 GVWR on the truck.

Don't forget Ford dropped about #700 off the overall weight of these trucks for 2015 so the ratings may not seem impressive until you factor that in.

I think for me the most valuable feature has been the backup camera. I have a bumper pull trailer and this makes it so easy when hitching up...no more guessing or having to have a spotter.

Pay close attention to the payload capacity. The King Ranch version eats up a lot of available payload compared to lesser equipped models. You need to decide if you want a functional towing vehicle or a tricked out cruiser.

I traded my 2011 F150 Ecoboost with 3.73 gears for a 2015. I really liked my 11 and towed my 8,000 lb toyhauler out west for a total of about 30,000 miles. I really liked the truck and it pulled great. I have only towed with the 15 for about 300 miles and it pulled really well. We leave for Las Vegas in the morning and will travel for a couple of months so I can give better reports over the next few days if you are interested.

I ordered the Max Tow package (which now has 3.55 gears), 36 gallon fuel tank, power mirrors and the 502a package which has all the luxury stuff. Payload is 1,655 per the door sticker. Max tow capacity is 10,700 on my supercrew 4x4.

So far, I am very happy with the truck. Pulled the trailer with very little effort and handled well.

Owned a 13 Eco F150 King Ranch. The Payload was close to 500 lbs less than a XLT version. Might be able to just buy a lariat, which I did to get most options I wanted with my F250 and still maintain my CCC.

Thanks for all of the replies. I want all of the technology so it will have to be the Platinum or the King Ranch. I having been driving Fords (cars) for a few years and my current vehicles have all of the options. I strongly believe in adaptive cruise and camera systems. I think they are a must for anyone who drives any distance. So far I have found everything I want in the truck except the towing mirrors. They are a rare option on the F150, but common on the Super Duty. We only tow about 10 times a year and this will be my wife's vehicle for which she only drives about 5k miles a year. I may end up settling for everything I am wanting minus the tow mirrors. My wife says the tow mirrors are ugly anyway. Will keep everyone posted.

Here is the link to get the info you require. I have a 2015 F150 Ecoboost 4x2 with the max tow package. Truck is listed as being able to tow 11,900 lbs with the max tow package. Hope this helps.

With the model of truck your looking at...I believe you have all the bells and whistles !
What I really like on mine is the backup camera...makes it very easy to hitch the trailer.

Yes my wife said the Tow mirrors are ugly too. I got tow mirrors, when towing they are a must, if getting king ranch get power fold to I think that is an option on that model was not on mine, but my 2011 had power fold. The slip on mirrors are a pain and just don't seem to get out far enough. I love the back up camera on the 8inch screen and voice activated navigation (loved this one when driving on past trip). I just towed approx. 5000 kilometers into the Appalachian and Pocono mountains no issues loved the power and towing.

I have a 2014 F-150 EB (3.55) with integrated brake controller and towing package although it is not the Max Tow edition. When we purchased our 2015 Flagstaff 26RLWS I also ordered Ford's OEM Towing Mirrors (similar to the ones you find on F-250 except they are styled and fitted to F-150) and has made a huge difference in our towing and backing experience. I paid approx $450 for the mirrors installed and they are fully integrated to the truck (elect adj, heated, and puddle light). That said they are manual extend but we have not had a problem extending them when needed. This may be "the cat's meow" for us who do not have ¾ ton TV.

I have an F-250 and have the extendable and foldable side view mirrors and LOVE them!!! I can't emphasize it anymore than that. Not only can I fold them when driving into tight spaces, but the flexibility of extending them electrically when towing is a real blessing. I see they are offered on the F150 and would recommend them. Do you know it they come with a chrome cap? It really dresses up the 250. You should convince your wife that this is a necessity and she will just have to get used to them! Or did I just suggest to you that you cross that "invisible" line?

Check the sticker on the door for payload/cargo capacity. Make sure it can handle you, your people, your stuff, your hitch, and your tongue weight.

I will add that the OEM tow mirrors are great for general driving also. They have so much more visibility and field of view compared to the standard mirrors. Once you have them you will wonder how you managed without them. I will not have another truck without this type of mirrors. That said, we will likely have an F-250 next and they are already equipped with excellent mirrors.

Someone said that Ford dropped the List price on the F-150 by $10,000 the other day. Any truth to that??? If so why??

My 2015 F150 XLT, 5.5 ft bed with 3.5 Ecco and 3.31 gears tows my 2015 Flagstaff 26 RLWS with no problem. I thought the standard mirrors would be a problem but found they work well and don't have to worry about tearing them off when I pull in the garage. I have the 36 gal fuel tank and it's great. I get around 12 MPG towing.

Of all the things that all the people said are great this is not the first time someone is writing in asking about the new ford 150, and I fully understand why people want all the goodies that all the company's put into their 150 series of trucks, but I think the biggest issue that most folks do not take into consideration is the "FUTURE" and what I mean by this is this whole thing about rving/camping is a illness! Oh my what do I mean by this, well I look at my own history and it is like most folks who get hooked into the word, they look at a camper and it looks so great, they have it for a little while and they get a bigger one, and then a bigger one and on and on. I went from a pop-up to a bigger pop-up to a 5er to a bigger 5er to my current 5er which is 39 ft long with 3 slides. SO why do I bring this up, if you read the big issue with the new 2015 ford f150's is the bed length, as the common 5.5 ft bed will NOT pull a 5th wheel.

Now I know you said nothing about t 5er but read above and try and look into the future and see if a bigger or different coach might happen before the truck needs to be replaced?

I hope all the words here and all the others who wrote in have helped you out and at the end of it all it comes down to just Happy Camping to all.

The more I look into this the more I am thinking the standard mirrors. I think they will be fine for what I need to do. I am not planning on jumping up to a new trailer for sometime considering I just purchased this one last year. When I do decide to look at a new trailer I will most likely will get a new truck....I appreciate everyone's response's....I will post pics once I decide on the one I am getting....

If I had three things to change about my 2013, it would be payload rating, the towing mirrors and LT tires. I use add-on CIPAs that are fitted to the 2011-2014, but there are none currently for the 2015. The power folding tow mirrors would have done better. The P rated tires just don't do well towing compared to a D or E rated LT options.
