Unhappy 2015 Silverados.. Something to look at(warning of sorts)

For those who cannot read everything the cliff notes:

2015 Silverados might have faulty body seals which will allow water to get into the dash and floor areas. Chevy says March and newer, mine is a January baby..

The story and more for those who care:

SO... I go outside yesterday to clean the windshield of the TV. As I get done the passenger side I pickup the Windex bottle that had fallen over on the floor... There was a puddle of liquid under it about a 1/4" deep.

So I grumble to myself, curse then begin to clean up the mess with some shop towels. Three towels later and there is still liquid and the area is STILL SOAKED! NOW I AM CONCERNED!! I do the sniff test then a lick test (not recommended for the faint of heart! LOL) and it is just water. So I am glad it is JUST water, but now, why is there a 1/4 of standing water in my truck with only 4000 miles on it.

This morning I went over to the dealer to have them look at it. The area was still saturated and not seemingly drying at all. After they change some seals, remove some panels they come in and let me know I in fact have a water leak.

They report the carper and underlayment are soaked but it is contained to the area on the passenger floor area. The leak is coming in through a body seam that was flawed from the manufacturing process they figure somewhere under the dash, fender or engine compartment. They report that they have a bulletin from Chevy saying to check certain body seals on the Silverados (I do not know it if is only 2500 or the others as well) made after March were not correctly made and will need to be checked and redone if needed. Mine was made in January.. So there goes that idea.

So on Monday it goes in to have its insides taken out to dry and clean, the dash pulled in that area and the fenders pulled. The area on my truck where the issue is was along where the dash trim and rocker panel meet. Right where your right foot would be if in the passenger seat. So check the area out before you get other issues. My guess is that it was always going this but we have just not had a lot of rain and I am not usually under the passenger floor mats to see this mess.

Thanks for the info. Honda ridgelines did the same yrs ago.
Make sure to get a new carpet - it will stink if it doesn't get replaced!
They will never get all the moisture out of it.

I'd still watch it. Mine was made before the supposed problem as well.... The problem was not supposed to have appeared until the March and newer. Mine was made 2 months prior to this "issue"

As I learn more on the tear down and repair next week I will give an update.

Good info, but in my case, having spent a week in pouring rain in the wind river and red lodge area, I guess mine has passed the leak test. Mine was an early build too since I purchased it in January and it had been in a dealer in MT for a month of longer. And it was a 1500, made in Mexico, and I believe (not sure) that 2500/3500 are not made in the Mexico plant. (Again, not sure.)

Too bad the trailer didn't do as well with the tree limb.

When I said early it was built 2/15/14. No water to date. Had that issue on a 2010 but it came around the seal for the safety brake pedal. Later RJD

I have the same issue with my 2015 Silverado 1500. Dealer knew nothing about the problem. Thanks for posting this! I am headed back to the dealer!

Had a similar problem on an earlier Chevy 1500, the drain from the air conditioning evaporator was not sealed and allowed the condensate to soak the carpeting big time. A small section of heater hose cured this.

So, an update... The truck has been in the shop all last week and still in a bay today. I stopped by today to check on it and the passenger side front end was off, the dash apart... Everything was sitting in the bed of the truck. They still have not found the leak but say they are getting closer. They are hoping to have some better news soon.

Well a final update and hopeful resolving of the issue.... After two weeks they found the leak.

A wire bundle in the passenger A-pillar was leaking where it passed from the engine compartment into the passenger compartment. We have had no rain so I am not able to confimr the issue is fixed so we shall see, but my guess is I am good now.

Recalls

Be thankful you are not part of the Dodge Ram mandatory buy-back for several hundred thousand Dodge trucks that "can't be fixed'. I don't remember the exact number, but it's big. NHTSB list the affected models and years. Big steering problem among other things. Not sure if water intrusion is one of the problems.

Tie rod ends I believe. The issue is they have a million some odd trucks with an issue and cannot get the parts to make the repairs. All they are doing is paying market value (trade in value) so it may or may not be a good thing depending on your location in your auto loan status. I do not know the yeard either so that may not be important.

No the carpet was not replaced. It was dried out and laying on the bed of my truck for the two weeks. I will keep and eye on it and make sure I do not get any odors... It is bone dry now but we are getting heavy rains right now so I will be checking in the AM for dampness.
