I'm not judging it is just an observation.
Those are obtainable numbers for 3/4 ton. The big three figures pin weight percentages at 15 % of 15,000 would be a 2250 pounds pin weight. Take that 2250 and add 150 lbs driver and you are at 2400 lbs total payload since the big three don't include the weight of the hitch in their numbers. My 2013 Chevy 2500HD Diesel had a payload of 2475 on the yellow sticker.

Now take a more realistic view. I would guess the average of 15,000 lbs 5er would be between 20 and 25 percent so I will use 22.5. Use 22.5 that pin weight would be 3375 now add 400 pounds for passengers, 200 lbs for hitch and 100 lbs of misc and you have 4075 that exceed the majority of the 1 tons.

Try telling that the DOT if they pull you over though...just saying! I know what you are saying, it's all good till something happens.

Well if DOT does pull me over, he better have a scale in his pocket. Been pulling all kinds of stuff for personal and business and have never had anyone pull me over for weights. But if you want to worry about it........

I ignore payload as when I go by the scales and do all the calcs, every other category is well within proper ranges. Except payload when I'm fully loaded with 5ver, extra fuel, water, and firewood in the bed. If you pay too much attention to that number you will never pull anything I figure I'll be over payload when my stock truck is squatted past level

DOT would be looking at exceeding a registration, axle or tire rating, not the GVWR.

If you are a 18 wheeler you are correct since the axle ratings is their GVWR but with 4 or 6 wheeers it's manufacture specs and it's the first Manufacture Spec that is on your federal mandated stickers you exceed either the GVWR or the GAWR.

The reason the 250 payload is lower is because it weighs more and ford is keeping you at not exceeding 10,000 gvwr. Technically the 250 has the same leaf pack, axles, diff, wheels, bearings, tires , etc that the 350 has without the higher gvwr sticker in the door (and the 350 with a 2" block on the leaf pack and the 250 with 1"). The 6.7l 250 can handle more but it's still not legal. The sticker in the door is the last word. Airbags on the 250 gains u the extra lift u would get from the larger block on the srw 350 anyhow. But bottom line if u want more payload legally do the 350 with the over 10k gvwr. But at the end of the day I feel if u were to go over, it's safer on the 250 because it truly is capable of more where the 150 isn't
