I have the OEM controller in my 2013 Ram. Its the best controller I've ever had, so far no issues. (knock on wood)

Ram did some programming changes to the brake controller starting in 2014. There is an extensive thread on it at RamForums. Apparently it's not putting out full voltage when cranked all the way up. It works better with the slider, but still doesn't work 100%. A lot of those guys have swapped out their controllers with P3's. Not much info on the 2016's, some have good luck with them, others don't.

Personally, I'm about to get a 2016 2500. I'll be putting a P3 in just for peace of mind.

Took it to the shop

I didn't want to mess with trying to install something as important as a brake controller, so when I bought a P3 for the 2011 we used to own, i took it to a trailer hitch place. they installed for about $70, as I recall.

Where did you mount aftermarket controller?

In our 2011 Laramie 2500, the only place we could find to mount the P3 controller was on the bottom of the dash, just to the right of the steering wheel and almost right above the accelerator pedal. I was forever either banging a knee on it or nearly so.

for those of you with 2016 1-ton Rams who have mounted an aftermarket controller, where did you mount it where it wasn't in the way?

Just an update... I checked my settings and found I had my brakes set to light electric on my 5er. I changed it to heavy electric and wow it works awesome... not sure what all problems you all are seeing, but set on heavy electric it locks up the wheels on my 14k 5er with the slider, and feels great down the road.

I've had both and I'll take the OEM any day.

I have the P3 on my '03 Ram CTD and the OEM on the '14 Ram Hemi. The OEM is much easier to set up/change and a lot smoother. Plus, I never bump my knees on it.

I have a Ram 1500 and mounted my P3 without any knee bumping and quite handy for actuating the manual brake control if needed:
