2017 Dodge Ram 1500 pulling

I would like to hear from the folks that have a Dodge 1500 Hemi/392 rear ration, and what kind of travel trailer you are pulling and dry weight of your camper too?

My truck is rated for up to 10,100 lbs. And I am looking at travel trailer that weights dry about 6000 lbs.

Thanks for any and all suggestions and help

I'm driving a 2016 Ram 5.7 hemi, 3.21 rear end, towing 7500. Truck max rating is 8300. About 10 mpg. You should be good with your rig.

My RAM is rated to tow 10,200, so we're very similar. My trailer weighs around 9400 according to the scales. After getting the WDH squared away it tows extremely easily. You should have no problems.

I have a 2016 hemi 1500, tow a 2503s about 6000 pounds. Tows great, took a trip California north to Oregon, Idaho, Utah and home to nor Cal. Pulled well through mountains but don't expect anywhere near 10 mpg. Engine rpm really races, gauges showed about 4 mpg in the hills. Plenty of power though.

2014 RAM 1500 5.7 Hemi, 3.21 8spd... 3500# dry, 4700# loaded trailer, ... no problems towing hills... get about 7 MPG or 9.5 in flat lands... a lot depends on winds either headwind or tailwind that affects mileage...

How come no one has posted payload capacities?
That's just as important, if not more, as towing capacities.

It's not just your weight limit for towing, but also your hitch weight. Have an extra battery installed? Propane in the tanks? Stuff in forward storage? More than just you in the truck? How much does the hitch itself weigh? Going to carry a full tank of fresh water?

In addition to the question of what you are going to carry, you also have to contemplate the issue of where you plan to carry it

I'm pulling a 30 foot Wildwood x-lite bunkhouse that weighs about 6000 dry with a 2014 ram 1500 crew cab with a 5.7 hemi. Pulls nicely loaded up with the weight balanced through the trailer.

I just sold my 2017 Ram Big Horn 5.7L loaded only option I did not have was leather. 9 months old.

I pull a 5000 lb Ice House fulltime.

It did the job just fine but as the Dodge Warranty is weak, I sold it and upgraded my truck. I have pulled up to 9k with it and had the large disc brakes. Did great in the mountains of Colorado & NC so you have no worries.

But if you worry as I did about mileage Dodge is not the truck.

What is the Cargo capacity of the TV and the tongue weight of the TT loaded for camping. Most TV run out of cargo Capacity before they run out of towing capacity. Towing capacity is appropriate if you are pulling a 4 wheel farm wagon with no hitch weight.

The warranty is competitive with any of the big three. They dropped the 5yr/100k powertrain to 5yr/60k the year after GM did.

I'm guessing you went with a Nissan?

I just bought a 2017 Ram 1500 with a lifetime Max Care factory bumper-to-bumper warranty rolled into the deal (year end clearance). You could also buy the same for a reasonable price after purchase.

I've never had a warranty issue not covered with Ram or when I had GMs. Ford on the other hand...

The 2017 5.7L bighorn reduced the warranty to 3/36 this year. I did in fact go with Nissan as GMC could not match on my 2nd 2017 price per. My Titan I love and in most ways smokes the Big Horn. I do miss some features. But the Ram was 47K and almost payed off and the Titan is paid off with a 7/150k and I bought extended after the fact. Hope all works well.

Basic bumper to bumper has always been 3/36, powertrain has changed from 5/100, unlimited, to now 5/60 (though diesel is still 5/100).

My parents just bought a 2017 Titan crew cab endurance 5.6L V8 4x2 SV. They haven't been able to break 18mpg. Less horsepower than Hemi and 7spd transmission vs 8spd. Smaller bed and back seat too. But they love it and only swear by Nissans

To each their own

Mine is full size back seat, 5.75ft bed 4x4 And I do not care about MPG personally. At 75mph I get 20.1 sans trailer, with trailer I actually get better mileage than the dodge and average 10.6 mpg. I travel 5 miles over posted.

As with the Dodge I found the sweet spot to get just around 15 mpg [Dodge was 62 mph-Nissan is 64 with Tow haul and all the electronic sway control engaged.] Over all I am very happy. May your truck endeavors find you ate peace. For me a Bumper to Bumper 7/150k along with the additional $1500 for extended are just fine to bring her to 10k/200k And as stated even with trade in on the Dodge my Titan is paid for and has many more options than the 2nd highest level dodge that I owned.

I'm totally at peace lol. I thought you didn't care about MPG? What does your door sticker payload say with all of your options?

Anyway good luck with your new truck. As long as you are happy thats all that matters right?

You will be fine with that truck. I am currently at day 6 on my trip from Socal to Tennessee, 1800mi so far, with our 2015 Tradesman CC Ecodiesel, 5'7" and 3.55. I'm towing a 251RKS Surveyor, about 6700lb loaded. TW is approx. 930lb. It's just the wife and I and 2 small pets. Payload on the truck is 1470. I'm averaging 12.2mpg @ 60mph. All temps are good, I keep them under control with my right foot. No one blows me off the road because I'm only doing 60mph. I've been towing TT's for 35 years. I know the weight police will tell you that you need a Peterbilt to tow a teardrop trailer. Just have a good setup, keep the load balanced in your trailer and slow down a little and enjoy the scenery. Happy travels.

My 4ltr jeep pulled our 4700 lb trailer with some effort at 7mpg. So for our long trip 3300 miles we got the truck. A quad cab LongHorn. Going north we saw 11.7 mpg. average. Coming back against the wind it dropped to 9 and change. 1643 tire load. GVWR 6900. Truck weight 4973. We put a bed rug and a lid on it. Keep the bikes chairs, inverter, fuel and grill. Tongue is about 590. We kept it at about 65-67. Up to 75 passing but rarely. I towed mostly without the WD bars. With them it rode a little rougher. Truck and trailer were level either way. Very please with our setup. That gear will get you up speed quick!
