2017 Super Duty

Well the release of the 2017 SD getting close the order guide is out and some new options are listed on Ford page. We are still missing the Tow Capacities, Payload Capacities, GVWR and HP and Torque. Talk to a Ford salesman and they don't seem to know either but did say to expect a payload increase do to a higher GVWR and the aluminum body. Anyone heard any news?

Here is the order guide for the 2017 SuperDuty http://www.fleet.ford.com/edms/conte...00cad98296b4c5

no, but once I saw it, I bought a 2016 F350. Maybe it will grow on me over time, but not a fan right now. Like some of the features, except the aluminum.

Not new news but some may not know 2017 will be the first super duty with a fully boxed frame. (2017 Ford Super duty)

Click here for the difference between current super duty frame and competitors.

If I were buying a new Ford, I'd want to wait at least until the end of the 2017 model year or better yet, get a 2018. Lots of gadgets and gimmicks on that new Ford which I'd prefer to see all the bugs are worked out.

I'm still a big fan of this generation Ford right now (2011-2016). I've had three, I work them like dogs, and they've been great. I've never heard of a frame problem yet.

Would love to see the new 2017 specs as well. Surprising they're not widely known. Not surprised the salespeople don't know.

Guessing they boxed the frame not because of any issue, but to keep up with the competition.

Things change in manufacturing for one reason only, profit. It is either less expensive to manufacture or reduces production time.
I would not expect any changes in power ratings. I did not notice any changes to the max payload packages. I started building F-250 specs for our fleet shop this week. I'll check again tomorrow.

The F250 is stuck with 10,000 GVWR but the F350 SRW has room to increase the GVWR. The sales guy keep saying that the 2017 will have the highest GVWR of any of the big three and also be the lightest truck of the big three with the largest payload. If I'm right they can't increase the GVWR on DRW without moving them up a class only the SRW could increase. We all know how accurate salesmen are with information. Been some talk about having 1,000 foot pounds of torque but just just bragging rights now and doesn't mean much to me. I heard that the turbo upgrades of 2015/16 will allow the increase in HP and Torque. Comments ???

If you want to know more about the 2017, click the link below. The lighter aluminum body allowed Ford to put more weight into the frame which will reduce frame twist and also enable greater payload. They say they tested the aluminum body for dent resistance and it is the same or better than the steel bodies.

While at the dealer for an oil change this week the sales manager stopped on his way to the office to chat for a minute. He knows I'm an old motor head and love the diesel. He said the 6.7 now has more HP and torque and the 350 can be ordered to 11,400

WOW, the F350 can be order now from 10,000 to 11,500 lbs GVWR in 2016. That information about 11,400 means they might done the same thing they did with the F150 and lower the GVWR when they went to a aluminum body. With the F150 it's close to a wash since they weight of the truck decreased about the same amount.

For sheet aluminum to be as strong as steel, it'd have to be pretty thick. Physics.

We went and looked at a '17 at the auto show. It was a pre-production truck and the cab was locked up, but I thought it looks much better in person. The headlights are a little funky, but otherwise I really like it.

Gets the bigger back seat in the crew cab from the F-150, bigger fuel tank - 48 gallons on the CCLB, camera package including one on the back of the trailer, trailer TPMS, SYNC3. Lots to like - everything but the price.

I imagine there will be some pretty killer incentives on the last of 2016's, but hard to resist waiting for the '17.

Going to test drive one in July and decide what to do...

I was thinking the same about the 16's hmmm what to do. I was burnt in the past by a "first year" update that was a nightmare, so I'm leary of them.
To be honest I'm looking at all of the big 3 so this makes it even more challenging of a decision

I'm thinking the risk of the first model year isn't too big. The major change is the aluminum body, but they did that 2 years ago on the F-150. I can't believe Ford would have made a multi-billion dollar bet on the aluminum switch if they had any doubts about long term durability. The engines are all the same, probably with some tweaks to boost the ratings, and most of the high tech additions are things that are already on other vehicles.

The F-150 rollout went pretty smooth so I'm optimistic the Super Duty will go OK as well. The last '16 rolls off the line this month and the first '17 is only something like 2-3 weeks later.

The price is the big hang-up for me. Looks like from the order guide they didn't bump the MSRP that much, but the dealer invoice price got a significant bump, so the discount from sticker is going to drop and the actual out-the-door price looks like it gets a hefty bump.

My plan A was replace the '05 F-150 with a '15 or '16 new F-150. Then got looking at prices, and a 3/4 ton gasser was about the same price (with a lot more payload) as a new F-150 so that was plan B. Then they rolled out the '17 in September and so wait for that was plan C. And now some local dealers are flush with used '15 F-150's they are getting out of Canada at very attractive prices. So that is plan D. But can't bring myself to do it without waiting to see an actual Super Duty. I think the 3/4 ton would be the better long term investment.

So many choices - and that's without even throwing the other brands into the mix.

Good points about the 17....the deal on the 16's may be too good to pass up ...decisions, decisions, decisions.

Did I mention I hate vehicle shopping???

It will stay this way, too. Has nothing to do with actual capability of the 250, they need a SuperDuty offering that stays under the 10K number for registration and insurance purposes.

With a click of the box you can order a F350 with a 10,000 GVWR all the way up to 11,500 (at least this year). Won't that work for registration and insurance purposes?

That is why I have a F 250. I bought my 2013 King Ranch for 55 k traded 2 years later and got 44 k back. Bought the 250 for 61k. No Brainer for me.

Possibly, but I don't know all of the idiotic regulations that are out there. Funny that you mention the simple clicking of the box changing the GVWR considering nothing about the truck changes. Kind of indicates that those numbers are pretty pointless and arbitrary, doesn't it.
