2018 F250 fuel tank size

I just traded my F150 for a new 2018 F250 6.2 L gas. All of the documentation I can find says that my truck has a 34 gal fuel tank. When I ask the dealer he said it was 29 Gallons. Dealers I take with a grain of salt. Whats making me question this is when I fill the tank at between 1/4 and a 1/2 tank it only holds 16 gallons. Is the gauge off or is there a substantial reserve below the empty mark. So far I haven't found the answer and thought maybe someone here would know. I miss my 150 and if were not for payload restrictions I would still have it.

Yes, 34 gallons. I just purchased 2018 F350. 2018 F250 and F350 same fuel tank plus a 7.5 gallon DEF versus what was 5 gallons...

Congrats on the new truck!

I see you have a gasser so disregard the DEF tank size. Others might be interested..

Well, you didn't tell us what you have, so it's harder to answer.

If you have the 6-3/4 bed, then you have a 34 gallon tank. If you have the 8' bed, then you have the 48 gallon tank. The 29 gallon tank is only on diesel engines with the shorter wheel bases (standard cab & extended cab with the 6-3/4 bed). You have gas, so you have either a 34 or 48 gallon, depending on your bed length.

There is a few gallons of reserve. So, if you run your tank until it tells you that you have 0 miles remaining, your tank will not take 34 gallons. It will take ~30 or so.

Good luck.

Yeah I got that from Ford too. I would think that just above a 1/4 tank I would be putting in over 20 gals in a 34 gall tank..... weird.

My bad. It's a 2018 Lariat, 6.2 liter gas, crew cab with a standard bed. Affectionately known as " Glug Glug", hence the need to know tank size especially when towing.

Gas Tank Size

Obviously I can't tell you the size of YOUR tank, but my 2011 F 150 4 WD, 4 Dr with Tow package has a 36 gal tank! I wouldn't expect them to change that in next few years.

They have 3 or 4 sizes they install depending on the truck sizes... ie: cab configuration and bed length. I have 2017 F250HD Crew Cab 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel and short bed that has a 34 Gal tank. I think there is a 45 or 48 that some models have as well as a 29. But your documents should tell you.
Salesmen have allot of models to keep info straight on and then there are the BS salesmen that will tell you it also flies if it means making the sale.

Capacities are almost always listed in the OWNERS MANUAL.

But nobody ever seems to want to read them.

Here's yours, if I'm reading your manual correctly:

That's funny; made me smile. My F250 6.2 was getting 12 MPG new; and it was the dead of winter in Minnesota. Now with 12K on the clock; have of it towing a 5th wheel, it has loosened up considerably. I've been getting 16 MPG all summer in rural driving; lots of short trips and cold starts. 17 MPG on the freeway at 65 mph. This is with 4.30 gears. Don't lose hope!! Driving style can make a huge difference as well.

More to the point, my 34 gallon tank shows empty and zero miles remaining with 4 gallons left in the tank. There is a big reserve. Some report driving well beyond the "zero" point. My guess is that the lack of fuel economy has driven this conservative reading on the gas tank.

It may take awhile to get used to the F250. It surely is big. It took me months to make the same conversion. Now I really like the F250; especially pulling that 5er. But, I STILL miss the Ecoboost . . . .

That’s encouraging. I’ve only got 4K miles on mine and still getting 12 mpg.

There does seem to be a 3 or 4 gallon cushion when reading “empty/0 miles to go” on mine too. I haven’t run it dry yet.

Run it to 0 miles to Empty and fill it up. Add 4 gallons and you will have your answer.

My 2018 F350 CC long bed has a 48 gallon tank. Driving range is much longer than bladder range.

F250 Fuel (Diesel) Capacity

I am a long time Ford fan. Now that I am traveling and towing more often and more distance I added an auxiliary diesel tank in the bed. Gravity drain directly through the OEM fill line and controlled by a ball valve inline. This makes squeezing into small stations a "not so quick" so we can keep going. Tank is 34 gallons and installed cost me just over $400.00. Doubles my driving distance if I need to.

Here's yours, if I'm reading your manual correctly:
That’s what used to tell my Dad. He never read the instructions. I actually read the book cover to cover and then found out there were changes not reflected in the book. The internet version is supposed to be more up to date.

I have had the truck for a little over 6 weeks now and just crossed 1100 miles. You are so right about the adjustment. Yesterday was the first time I was able to park it first try. It is a lot bigger(so it seems) than my F150. And I too really miss my Ecoboost. Some day they will put one in the SD’s and I’ll be first in line for that. Kind of interesting to consider what that would do to the diesel market.
