2020 Chevy/GMC HD

Here is the new specs. Seems Chevy has upped the game, and doesn't want to be the underdog in towing capability anymore.

I am a gm guy all the way. If I could afford a new 2020 I think my vote would by to stay Sierra hd. I like the front clip better.

I bet it won't be long till chevy gets it. Ram has one in the works but it looks like a 60/40 type tail gate.

According to RAM it will be available across the Ram 1500 lineup as a $995 option that includes a spray-in bedliner and can be paired with a new rear accessory step from Mopar for $295.

For what it is worth if you want the new tailgate you are forced to get the spray in bedliner. My 2015 RAM 2500 has the factory spray in liner and it was $475 option.

The spray in bed liner is so much better than the plastic tub.

Oh I agree on the spray in bedliner either from the factory or aftermarket....I would probably pass on the 60/40 tailgate for the cost of $500 give or take if you subtract the price of the liner.

The new GM tailgate to me seems so much more versatile Even with all those fancy features it wouldn't benefit me that I couldn't live without however, if it were standard and not an option that would be nice but I'm sure that is not the case

I could see at some point Alignment issues with the 60/40.

I'll admit, I am a ram guy so, there's bias, but, I like the split tailgate. If you don't want to use the step and actually climb in the truck bed to reach something, the ram tailgate gets you closer to the action. I'm 6'4" with freakishly long arms, I rarely have to climb into the bed of the truck, but, reaching over the tailgate to grab something in the back, and I usually leave it up. When you put a normal tailgate down, it kind of ends up in the way. If you're loading something in, you have to put it on the tailgate then slide it up to the bed. I actually think the split design is quite useful. Connected to a trailer, can't usually put the tailgate down, this eliminates that issue.

I have the ford tailgate step now and honestly, haven't used it more than showing it off really. Again, maybe that's due to my height/reach more than the step not being useful.

If you're talking about the new tailgate with all the folding mechanisms, then it's also only available on the 1500 platform in the current year. Not sure if that gets rolled to the HD 2500/3500 platform for 2020.

Was playing with the new tailgate on a GMC at the Detroit auto show. It was pretty amazing but you cannot use it if you have a trailer hooked up or even the insert in the receiver. So 90% of the time I could not use it. I work at FCA and their tailgate is cool also but waiting to see what they do for a step. The corner bumper step on the GM's is all I really need.
