2020 Jeep and Ram ecodiesel looking pretty stout.

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/2...ck-comparison/

480 ft-lbs, an 8 speed, and a 12,560 pound tow rating looks like a nice improvement on the older Ecodiesel. Need payload and EPA ratings still, but it's supposed to be better than the last on the EPA side and it used to be 19 city, 27 highway, 22 combined for a 4wd. The Ford f150 diesel is 20 city, 25 highway, 22 combined for a 4wd, so it should be higher than the Ford as the last one was equal. Chevy hasn't released their numbers yet either but it is looking good too, but with under 10,000 pound tow rating.

Looks like you wouldn't go wrong with any of the 3, but I really like the Rebel with the air suspension. I wouldn't care if off-road package dropped that tow rating down around 10,000 pounds it would be plenty for me.

Grandpa pulled the biggest airstream all over the continent with two different suburban's. His favorite had the 350 with 155hp(or 170hp?) and 255 foot-pounds. The specs today would blow his mind...

My grandpa pulled his big 5rh wheel with a F250 and the 300 six gas motor. Montana to Arizona and back every year.

That 300-6 was a great motor. We passed around one of those through the extended family for years...I don't remember exactly but it went somewhere over 250,000 miles.

Ford's 300 6 was a torque motor. Torque is what moves ya.

Well, lets not get crazy, the best it ever made was 265 ft-lbs. The same year, same size v8 302 made 270 or 275 ft-lbs at only 200 RPM more. My minivan makes 260 ft-lbs. What the 6 was, was reliable and simple, and the key is you go slow and use gearing to multiply that torque.

It all depends on gearing in the trans and the rear end. I had a 300 six with a granny low 4 speed and 3:73 gears that could pull the guts out of an elephant. The right combo can move mountains.

Had an early '77 F250 4x4 with the 300 six, 3.73 rear and 4 speed, bought brand new. In first "granny" gear, low range I could get out of the truck and walk along side it as it moved. I'd creep up on dead trees 10" - 16" dia. in granny and just push 'em over. Bashed my roof in a few times from falling

branches, but it was a ball doing it.
