23SS and 07 F150 towng question

I am sending my parents to pick up a 2010 23SS next month and need to know if I should pick up an equalizer hitch. I have an f250 with timbren bump stops and have been told it should ride fairly level.

I'm concerned about my parents 2007 f150 that will be picking it up. It seems like a waste of money to buy an equal-i-zer hitch for the f150 just for the trip from IN to CO if I will not need it on my F250.

Any ideas on if a F150 should be able to handle this or should I buy a cheaper hitch or equal-i-zer hitch.

Any and all opinions are appreciated.
Thank You

If your tongue wight is over 500, you better get the equalizer, with built in sway control. I use a Reese dual cam on my F150, pulling 6500 pounds with 900 pounds tongue weight. You may not be wasting your money either as even if you think you don't need an equalizer for the F250, you still should have sway control. Also both trucks will need electric brake control. Can buy one control and move it later, I like my Prodigy. Don't put you or your parents in a dangerous situation, and most of all don't put anyone else on the road with you in a dangerous situation.

Why not send your parent to pick it up in your truck then you wont have to do everything twice it will only cost a little more for fuel

I have decided to go ahead and buy a prodigy brake controller. I'm not sure if it's worth to go with P3.

I believe the 23SS will have a tongue weight of 600lb and the trailer around 4500lb.

I live in CO and my folks are in New Orleans. They had planned on driving here and I convinced them to take a longer route.

Thanks. It's hard to part with close to $500 for the equalizer hitch.

Ouch! I think you are making a decision based on economy rather than on safety. I sure hope that you, and your parents, don't come to regret this and that everything works out OK. Without any form of sway control they are likely to experience dangerous instances of the "tail wagging the dog." JMHO

Birddog91, I will agree with windrider on this. Some Super Duty Fords came with a weight carrying tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. on their hitches. Check out the hitch stats on your F250....it should be a label on the hitch.....I have to crawl underneath of my F150 to see mine.

I decided to buy the equal-i-zer hitch and also the P3 prodigy brake controller. I agree that compromising safety by being cheap is not very smart.

Thanks for all your help. No it is a waiting game on my new 2010 23SS.
