2500 4x4 Suburban
I'll be picking up my new company vehicle in a couple of months and had a few to choose from. Decided on a 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. Just wondering if anyone on here is towing with one and how liked it.

Wow. I know they're not all that common, but no one has one of these.?? Was trying to get an idea of fuel mileage and towing experiences.

There's only a few of the members on here that I know of who have a 3/4 ton suburban, so it might take a while before you get any real feedback.
That's pretty nice that you have a company that provides a vehicle that you can use for your own personal needs too. Good luck with the new rig when you get one.

Yeah that's my fault. New meaning 2012, being built. Just wondering if over the years that these have been built, has the three quarter ton been that much more of a vehicle or just a half ton with heavier parts. I do know that the rear end gearing is 3.73 instead of 3.08 and the engine in the 2012 3/4 is a 6.0 instead of the 5.3. Never owned a Suburban before and trying to see if those that have were happy with them. Not a specific year model, just in general. And it is nice of them to furnish me with a vehicle but the trade off is being on call 24hrs a day. Even on vacation have that uneasy feeling of having to cut it short and head to work. Oh well, it's the profession I've chosen and have enjoyed going to work every day for the last 14 years.

I have a 1/2 ton burb with 260,000 miles its a 1999 and we love it!
We used to tow our tt with it and could never complain.
1/2 to 3/4 ton brakes are different
axles are different
springs are different
Wheels are 8 bolt instead of 6
You'll like it for nothing more than the room!

The room in the suburban is what really made my mind up when ordering. Looking forward to having a back seat instead of a clothes dresser like the four door trucks.

My only add.
Will your company be putting their logo on the side?
Many states will require you to use the weigh stations if you have a "commercial" tow vehicle even if you are using it for personal use.
Check the rules for states you will be transiting very carefully.
You can do what you want, of course. Many here will tell you not to worry about it; just blow by them. You may even be waved through by the scale operator if you stop.
Just don't be shocked one day if you get pulled over by a trooper for blasting by the station in a commercial truck. Just sayin' and I'm done.

With the 6 liter and the good rear gears, you should be good to go.
What kind of camper are you pulling?

I got fortunate like that too. My company gave me the option of taking a company truck (std cab) or a monthly car allowance. I took the allowance and bought my own. Way better deal...especially since they pay my gas too.
Oh and the company logo's are magnetic... even better!

I've got a 1995 K2500 Burban 4x4, With a towmaster chip in it , Air bags, Its my sole TV and its great. Not a diesel but next best thing. It tows my 27ft rockwood 2701SS with ease and I am always loaded and with full tanks, gear etc. Its a great truck and extremely huge inside.

I hope your company
pays for fuel as well.(Even though I doubt this would include vacationing) My cousin has a 6.0 in a 2500 4x4 Silverado, and she averages 12 mpg unloaded. I would expect 14 highway, 10 city, and 6 or 7 towing a trailer. Hope I'm wrong, but be ready to feed it.
Edit: Other than the mileage, the 6.0 is a stout engine that should last a long time with routine maintenance.

Pulled the camper to the lake yesterday and set it up for the wife and kids. I had to work today so I'll be going down tomorrow. It had no problem pulling the trailer and got 11.8 mpg while towing it. I can't complain with those mpg numbers considering what my old truck used to get 7.5 to 8 mpg.

Looks like you got the same mileage
as my cousin does running empty. I would consider her driving habits to be normal- she doesn't granny around but doesn't hot rod by any means. At 11.8, you got the same mileage as most diesels do pulling, and they are know to be much more efficient when pulling. This trip wasn't downhill with a tailwind, was it? Not trying to start a war, but you are getting MUCH better mileage than most people I know claim to get with a 6.0.

Champlin is just a few cities over from Monticello. My co-worker lives in Otsego. I know of River Terrace Park and it gets good reviews. Is right on the Mississippi and has (some) full hookup sites with pull through. I would try to book ASAP though, sites around here dont last long. We had to book ours for next weekend at Country Camping in Isanti about a month ago and got the last two full hookup sites for us and my parents. My brother missed out on a FHU site, but still got FW and 30A services a few places down.

Well that didn't take long. Two days away from the forum and this happens. Sure, herk why wouldn't I lie about the mileage? Seems there is a contest I'm not aware of. How could I possibly know how to figure fuel mileage? Why not just make up a random number? *deleted* I'll stay here at the lake with my family enjoying the outdoors in my camper that I'm towing with a furnished vehicle with all the fuel I can pour in it.
*deleted*
For everyone else with intelligent comments, thank you and happy camping.

I am sorry you took my comment as a direct attack on you. It was not; but if you took it that way I am sorry. It was a flip remark and a generalization.
You are right; it was your thread and the "pile on" was not warranted.
I will think twice (or three times) before I do that again.
With your permission I will clean up the thread.
