2wd excursion with open differential.

So I've finally found an Excursion I'm considering purchasing for a tow vehicle, but it may have an open differential. I generally prefer limited slip though. I don't see an issue generally, but then again twisting into some campsites could be a problem. Any thoughts? I assume I could have a limited slip differential put in it.

The Excursions probably have a good bit more weight in the back to assist with traction, but I've seen more than a few nose heavy diesel Super Duty trucks with open diffs stuck on wet grass.

We have installed many, look at the tag on the diff. A limited slip will say ie. 3L73 instead of 3.73

Also typically the code will be a letter and number on the door

we have used the powertrax in a few plow trucks with good luck plus you only have to remove the spiders not reset the ring and pinion

Thanks for the input. I agree it's got some weight on the rear axle. I just don't want to get this thing stuck!
