I have a 02 duramax. So far all I have done is aftermarket exhaust. I can feel the little extra power. Next mod will either be a tuner or airbags

I have a new '14 Ram 2500 Crew Cab 4X4, (1300 miles so far). I don't think it's legal to modify them after a certain year. Mine will stay completely stock unless I can find a way to legally make it quieter... I've only towed with it once and it's a beast compared to my old gasser. I'm not sure why I would change anything, other than to try to get better mileage.

I had a 2009 F250 with the 6.4 PSD. It was crew cab, long bed, 4wd lariat package. It was stock. Got it after not having enough SUV for my previous tt (7000 lbs loaded). It handled the trailer beautifully. Power to spare. Loved driving it and towing with it. It was very light on payload. It only 1500 lbs of payload. This was confirmed at the cat scale. It also had a lot of mechanical problems and was frequently in the shop. An egr delete might have helped with some of those issues. I got tired of the issues and also wanted a fiver so we traded the F250 for our 2014 silverado 3500 duramax. We now have a much more capable and reliable truck. I do still find myself missing the ford a bit but I do love my new truck and am very happy with how my duramax handles my 12000 lb fiver.

Thumbs up

Stock? Some of it is stock! 2007 F350 only has 36000 miles (yes that is thousand) Found this great truck in late 08 when diesel went above $4/gallon. Knew the 6.0 historically had issues, so I saved up some money and started by changing out the exhaust! 4" MBRP turbo back/cat delete kit. Sounds awesome and lets it breath.
I then saved up even more and found an ex ford diesel mechanic who replaced the head studs with ARPs. And deleted the EGR. I got a SCT tuner and purchased a few tunes from some reputable guys and my truck pulls like a scalded mule! The tow tune with turbo break is awesome when pulling my 15K+ fiver. Just hope my state don't start checking for all the emissions!
It is amazing what you can do to a diesel to get better mileage and power!

I would love to have a newer truck but just can't justify the $$$ to replace my '01 7.3l Powerstoke yet as I only have 80K miles on it. So..., I added a DP tuner, Wicked Wheel 2, Ford AIS intake, 4" exhaust, 6.0 trans cooler with Valvoline Maxlife synthetic fluid, and various other minor things. It now gets better fuel mileage than it ever did and I have more power than I can use. My only complaint is that I have to really watch the exhaust temps as they climb fast when towing going up a steep grade. Nothing I can't keep control of by backing off a bit or bumping it out of overdrive, but it would be nice to just set the cruise and not have to watch it when heading up a mountain pass.

I had a 2004 Chevy 2500 LLY for a while and had it tuned with EFI Live and DSP5 switch. Was my daily driver and loved it.
Current truck is stock, and will likely stay that way.

I left mine as stock as I could muster for now...my tuner is the older one before the epa got all involved...so I have the parts to fully delete....but honestly. ..it ran n pulled GREAT from day one....ive really tried hard to leave well enough alone on the drivetrain...my toys always break when the "you know what would be cool" bug takes hold....lol

I bought my 2003 F250 Lariat crew cab new, and it's one of the last 7.3's. I've been running an 80 hp econo flash on the ECU for many years, and it's a 20 mpg vehicle on the open road.

I'm finally buying that fifth wheel, and truck modifications are warranted. I never realized that 3/4 ton trucks are somewhat bastard vehicles in that they have the power to pull heavy fifth wheels, but they don't have the weight carrying capability for the pin weights of big fiver's.

I've got a new D-P Tuner controllable chip with a 60 hp tow mode. I ordered a set of custom frame under bed mounts and bed rails for my hitch. The 16K B&W Patriot hitch is a great high line hitch. I've installed a TruCool secondary transmission cooler. And a set of gauges is going to be installed before I tackle any mountain towing. And I have a set of AirLift 5000 air bags on the rear. I plan to change the air intake and change the exhaust system shortly to keep the engine cooler.

It's very important to have any tow vehicle in 100% mechanical condition. You don't want any bad tie rod ends or ball joints that might cause any "death wobble." I use only Hawk LTS brake pads on my truck, as brakes are very important.

With my modifications, I'm limiting myself to a new 11,000 pound fifth wheel with a 2,000 pound dry weight on the pin. Anyone that might go to a larger, heavier fifth wheel needs to go ahead and buy a 1 ton dually--rather than have to trade later. There are limitations to the RV a 3/4 ton will handle.

Your 2003 F-250 is the same as a F-350 except for a 250 has a 2 inch block between the axle and spring perch , the 350 has a 4 inch block and two more leaf springs. the frame axle and brake are the same. throw some air bags on it. you can get your 250 GVWR changed to

IronJ,
I absolutely love the truck, but I have to ask. Why did you add F350 springs and axle instead of just buying an F350 from the start? The price difference was probably less than what you spent on aftermarket mods, plus you get the door sticker that makes it legal...Again, love the truck, just curious.

I have a 04 dodge 3500 drw. I love this truck. I bought it from the bank when the guy who originally bought it voluntarily turned it it due to not being able to pay for it. I did a few things to it, airbags, programmer (smartly), front and rear bumpers with front winch. And by the far the best upgrade was the exhaust brake. The truck is a daily driver and makes me money by pulling equipment to my repair shop from the field. I go on a lot of utility roads so the winch was a necessity.

Hoping to pick up my new trailer on Friday.

For those who can't justify the cost of these trucks. Do what I did and call banks to get a repo list from them. It took me a year but I got exactly what I wanted at a fraction of the cost

My F250 has the camper/tow package, and it has the helper springs like the F350. But my rear axle is 3 1/2" in diameter where the F350 is 4" in diameter for single rear wheel models. (Dually's don't use the Sterling rear end.)

I still consider all brands of 3/4 trucks to be pretty much bastard trucks, in as they have the power to tow big loads but you cannot load'em down with 3500-4000 lbs. of pin weight of big 5ivers.

But when it comes down to it, I have no desire to drive any big dually around Krystal or in the tight places I have to go from day to day. I'm just sticking to a 11K new fifth wheel with 2K pin weight, and I'm not suffering one bit having single rear wheels.
