Not a chance a 3/4 ton truck only has a 1200 lb payload. I have a 2011 GMC 3/4 ton, same as the OP...weighed at cat scale with hitch in place and a full tank of fuel, I only had 3200lb on the rear axle.
My 2013 2500 HD diesel on the scales with me and my wife only plus the hitch and misc stuff had 1980 for payload and the yellow stick stated 2475 lbs. You must not have a diesel if your payload was that high.

I never stated what my payload was, simply what the weight was on my rear axle on the scale. The payload I quoted in my post what was the original poster was telling us at 2792.
But yes, I don't have a diesel, and there is a couple hundred pounds difference in the payload specs between diesel and gas.

If you actually read... I said "let's keep it simple" by using round numbers. They are made up numbers to explain what the axle stuff meant. Much easier to deal with 5000lbs than 2345 lbs to explain a point. Just saying..

not only does 2345 not round to 5000, the empty truck doesn't put 5000 lbs on the rear axle. Don't know where you are getting that calculation from. Only about 2500-3000 on the rear axle with an empty truck. An empty truck will only have about 1/3 of it's curb weight on the rear axle.

WFD is on to something lol lol an empty truck with 5000 lbs on the rear axle???? Truck only weighs around 7000 lbs give or take a few hundred. Most any 2500 will tow a 5 th wheel of that weight safely and with no problems.... Its not necessary to have a Kenworth to tow a 5er...

This is a ticket of my racing gooseneck. The truck had 2 adults and 2 kids with some gear in there and some firewood in the bed as well. The trailer full of all the gear and the car is 10k but with the car in there we have to load all the extras in the overhang so the pin is up there. With that being said, we still are technically 200 under the axle max. But as of 2011, the 2500 and 3500 SRW Chevys have exactly the same rear axles. The only difference is the spring pack having 1 leaf spring. We supplemented with the Firestone bags with on board air. My next trip in 2 weeks, I plan on scaling the fiver so I know without a doubt what the numbers are.

With all that being said, my current fiver is 12k loaded and my truck does everything with it perfect. My thoughts on a 15k trailer is that the TV should be a 1 ton and possible a dually. My next fiver will be a 15k plus unit and I already have plans to get a 3500 dually because I want to be able to pull anything!

For this:

Our fiver weighed 2k more with a higher center of gravity:

Lets make it really simple. In your first post you can see on the sticker that the GVWR for the truck is 10,000 lbs. Your truck ready to camp with passengers, hitch and misc stuff will weigh around 8,000 lbs and the dry pin weight of the 5er is 2230 lbs empty.

8000 lbs truck PLUS 2230 lbs trailer dry pin Equals 10,230 which is 230 over GVWR with empty 5er.

Now if you are interested in staying within the trucks manufacture specs you will exceed most of them if not all. Now if not worried about manufacture specs the sky is the limit.

He got the payload from the towing guide and I bet the sticker on the truck is lower. Diesel isn't a couple hundred pounds difference but 600 to 800 difference.
