3/4 Ton Tow Question

I posted the below question to the forum this morning (received some great feedback......THANKS) but after locating the below GM sticker in my door I'm even more confused with the axle rating/payload question for the 5th wheel we're looking at (see below). I'm assuming this doesn't mean my payload capabilities are over 6,000lbs?!?!? What is this telling me???

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New to the forum. Loaded with great information. I have a trailer/truck combo question. I'm second questing if my truck is rated high enough to pull it. I know there are charts and calculations out there but those darn things confuse me. Looking for some assistance.

We are currently looking at purchasing a new 5th wheel (2016 Chaparral 390qsmb). Specs of the trailer are:
-dry weight 12,170
-pin weight 2230
-GVWR 15,000

I have a 2011 GMC Sierra crew cab 4wd with a standard 6.5 bed, 6.6L Duramax. Truck specs are:
-payload 2792
-GVWR 10,000
-chart shows "5th wheel hitch" 16,700 which I assume is the max trailer weight
-GCWR 24,500

Any input, help, or suggestions would be appreciated!!!

with the empty pin weight of 5th wheel, about 300 lbs for a 5th wheel hitch, 2 people in truck, you have nothing left for all the stuff you need to put in 5th wheel or truck

It saying that the rear axle cannot have more than 6200lbs. This will not include the weight of the truck.. Just what the axle will support. So to keep simple.. Truck puts 5000lbs of weight on this axle (just truck no cargo or trailer) you have 1200 left of payload. This 1200 drops with people and junk added in truck, hitch or pin weight of trailer.

You are well within the capacity for your truck. I have the Chevy version, same engine, year, etc. and tow a 15,000 dry weight Trilogy...no need for comments from the weight police...

Well that's a broad sweeping statement.. While I may or may not agree with your feelings of what the truck can do vs what it can legally do... He is here asking for weight help so I guess he would want help from the weight PD as well or he would not be here. Just saying...

will it tow it. Absolutely. Will it be over pay load. Absolutely. No body trying to be weight police. Just helping make sense of the numbers, which is what was asked.

Am I missing something here? Where do you get the figure of 5000 lbs put on that axle? His truck specs says he has a payload of 2792. He would have to weigh his truck at a scale with a full tank of fuel and his hitch to see what weight is actually on the rear axle and determine his true payload. Not a chance a 3/4 ton truck only has a 1200 lb payload. I have a 2011 GMC 3/4 ton, same as the OP...weighed at cat scale with hitch in place and a full tank of fuel, I only had 3200lb on the rear axle.
