3/4T '02 F250 w/ 7.3 or '06 GMC 2500HD 6.6 D'Max??

So, we have recently purchased our first camper, XLR 27HFS, and we love it. I currently pull it with an '07 Chevy Tahoe with the 5.3 V8. I live in S.W. LA, so there are no mountains or hills to fight with. The Tahoe does a somewhat ok job pulling the camper but it is maxed out so I'm looking at buying a used 3/4T desiel truck since we are already planning on upgrading to a 5th wheel later on. After all the reading and shoping around I found a '02 Ford F250 crew cab 4x4 with the 7.3 and a '06 GMC crew cab 4x4 with the 6.6 D'Max and Alley tranns, both trucks have roughtly 150K miles on them. I have read great things about both trucks but needed some honest, unbias comments from ppl who own and pull with them. Something else I have to consider is that I currently drive 168 miles a day for work..

Dieselplace.com is a good site to check. I know the 06 duramax with the LLY motor had problems with overheating. The LBZ motor is the best. Get the vin and you can look up the code at the site.

Hope it is not too late. 06 Duramax is bullet proof. More HP and Torque than the 02 F250

I would have to disagree. All the duramax have problems especially around 100k miles I have worked on them. . I am not at all a ford fan and would never buy one but if I was in his position I would buy the ford.

My neighbor has a Duramax of about that year, and it has been a money pit. Injectors, head gaskets, etc, etc. And the truck is falling apart.
That might be the exception, but why such a lousy truck?
