I have the 2015 Ram 3500 Cummings with the aisin transmission its a $2,990.00 up charge - got 38,000 miles already - no issues - pull 16,000 to 19,000 #loads every other day. Love this truck - I had them all - Ford - Chevy - First Ram.

Congrats, my GMC has a 2" body lift from the factory love the mph I get 15 -17 with the trl.(43' BH Sierra) and 24 without with the roll-up out covering the box

The 68RFE automatic found in newer Ram trucks is a proven dependable automatic that has a reputarion as good and by some reports better than the Allison 1000 found in GM products. Couple it to the proven Cummins with factory exhaust brake and you have formidible combinarion. Newer Ram trucks have demonstrated a nicer interior than the dated GM or gawdy Fords interiors of recent years.

The guys that work on my Jeeps. Say if you want and auto go with a GM. If you will drive a 6 speed drive a Dodge. But If it's a new truck pick the body style you like. Most don't keep one long enough to find the problems !! Happy towing !!

I have a 2011 with the aisin and absolutely love it it's deleted and tuned about 60 extra HP doesn't even phase it truck was for are trucking company and I bought it with 200k on it and it runs like a dream still no problems with it at all or the truck always been a Dodge guy so was my gpaw always bought them to haul heavy loads. But you can get a bad of anything doesn't matter what it is just your choice. Everyone will have there opinions on them all my dad has a new f450 love the truck but hate the angle of the pedals no matter were I adjust them it hurts my leg so it's all up to what fits you best he had a Chevy before he loved but I'd never trade away from my rams

From everything I have read and heard, the Allison is a really good trans.
Ram has had it's problems with automatics over the years but the Cummins is one hell of a motor. Personally I think you can't go wrong with any of the diesel trucks for towing heavy loads. It all comes down to personal preference.

Good Mercedes built tranny but limited to 600ft/lbs torque with the stock clutch. You have to slap in a real strong clutch to handle more power but if you like manuals, only option out there.

There's atleast 1 4th gen out there that I know of converted to an Allison. The problem is not the pairing, but the controlling of the Allison. Resale value might take a hit, too.

The duramax / Alison combo it very good indeed. I personally have a 2014 Ram 3500 with the Cummins / 68rfe trans. I have no problems what so ever with this truck, it's been awesome! PS... someone mentioned early Rams having problems with rear ends when pulling big horse trailers... I call BS and would like to see proof. I myself pull big horse / cattle trailers, and have many buddies that do as well. None of us have any issue with rear ends. Even I have never heard of rear end issues on the newer trucks at either TDR or the Cummins Forums.

I've never heard of rear end issues either. Just tranny issues, especially up to the 47RFE. The 48 was an improvement and the 68 was even a bigger jump. I personally never had an issue with either one and have no experience with the Aisin. My Ally seems smoother then my 68 was but you cant go wrong with any of the new diesels. They all can tow more then we will ever need! LOL

In Arkansas, a farmer has a GMC/Chevy truck. Period. And I own a (tiny) farm, and wife was raised on it. I'm a Chevy man. Ford is king in Texas I hear. Town folks around here drive a few Rams........ but the farmers won't buy a foreign vehicle, so no Rams. And very few Fords, either. I looked at Ford when I got my Denali, but couldn't afford them.

But all 3 make good trucks. The differences used to be immense. Now, not so much. If a Chevy will do the job, that's what I'll drive. But I'll ride in any of 'em! I suspect it's whichever one will get you the best deal......because whatever Joe and Pete own, Joe and Pete will tell you is the best!

I will ride in any of the big 3 trucks.......I have AAA road service to come get me. :-)))

Can't vouch for the others but Ram stands behind their 100K mile powertrain warranty. In 2013 I became the 2nd owner of a 2011 Ram 2500 w/5.7 Hemi & 85K miles. A year later the Hemi dropped a valve @ 96K miles which destroyed the engine. Ram replaced the engine - no questions asked - even though I was the 2nd owner & there were no paper/online records from the first owner.

The Cummins/Aisin combo should last & last but should you get a lemon, you can trust Ram to make it right. IMO they are working the hardest on improving their image & have recently matched Ford & Chevy/GMC in bumper-to-bumper quality. IMO, you can get a loaded Ram w/every option for a better price & the quality of the leather interiors is outstanding. Around here you can sometimes find Rams for $10K OFF sticker, so compare what you can get for the same price.
