4R100 transmissions

The trans in the SD is on its way out, hanging in 2nd and an abnormally high rpm for the 1-2 upshift. It has 204000 miles on it,about 50% towing,so I got my $ worth! Just looking for experiences with aftermarket "built" transmissions. The only one Ive looked close at was the ATS unit. Its a little pricy at $6000,but if it works as well as the OE trans did I dont have a problem with spending that kind of $. What are you guys useing as a repalcement transmission and what are your experiences?

Just had my 99 SD 250 professionally rebuilt by Chris at A1 Trans in Flowery Branch, GA. I drove six hours to drop it off and saw an Excursion from New York waiting for service. If you can't drive it that far, ship it to Chris, you won't be sorry.

Shift solutions in Danielsville, GA is who did mine. Master trans builder/tech for Ford for many years. Had Tracy do an Extreme Duty Build.. A LOT less than $6k..
I know you are a long way away, but MANY shops out there can build a GREAT 4R100. BTS, Brian's Truck Shop in the Midwest is a nationally known builder.

I'm going to start makeing some calls on monday. The big thing I worry about shipping something like that is the way its treated while en route.Does it get here with ears broken, was it rolled off the forks,or dropped? That just spooks me!
