To each there own. I prefer the slide bar. I know when that handle is slid in it isn't going to come apart and smash the bed of my truck. Everytime I hear about someone's trailer hitting the bed it was because of the jaws not being closed properly.

Agree. Simple is better IMO.

The jaws not being closed properly is usually operator failure. Just get and look and do a pull test.

Yep, I can personally attest to that - cost my thousand bucks to replace a slightly altered tailgate. I check the jaws every single time with a very powerful flashlight.... better safe than sorry

A $50 Butch's bed saver is money well spent. I saved even more by making my own.

That's a pretty fair price for that hitch. As for the sliding bar design, to each their own. The slide bar does leave for some slop in the king pin which transfers to the tow vehicle with magnification it seems. I have the locking jaws which if do prefer, but it would be nice if they closed and locked in place without my having to do so manually. On the other hand the jaws will release without ever binding on the pin, so I guess it is a trade off.
