5th wheel hitch
Purchasing new 5th wheel this week. Any opinions of the type of hitch to purchase. Dry weight 12500. The dealer recommended a Curt or B&W but, I never trust a dealers info when it comes to towing...

My dealer installed a Curt 16E with an R20 roller (slider) setup. I'm pretty impressed with it so far. I didn't need the slider, but it will be nice if I ever want to use it.
I had earlier picked out the new Reese 16K. It looked pretty nice, but everyone I spoke with had little good to say about Reese - Curt is much better.
So far - so good. I hope this helps.

I'm really happy with my Reese R20, but don't have experience with any others. Be sure to consider GVWR and not just dry weight.

Just my .02 worth but I would be looking at a 15k hitch. When you jump to 16k the price jumps exponentially. Check your max weight also, its probably 14k loaded..???
As for brand everyone has their own preference, some hitches work better witht the brand of truck your towing. I have a double pivot Reese 5th wheel hitch and love it..it is 15k lb rating as well. Easy to use and it is not too heavy to remove when not in use..!

Size the hitch to meet at least the gross weight of the trailer. When I need to put another hitch in it will be the B&W setup with the companion 5th wheel hitch. I like my Reese fine, but have ridden\driven with the B&W and it is a noticeably better ride (to me).

I'm a huge B&W fan... heck, I blogged about it just to rave about it.
No affiliation- they're just that dang good.

I have a Curt Q20, the 20K version. It's a manual slider hitch. I've used the slider only a couple of times, mostly just to make sure it still worked! It is a very heavy duty hitch and I have absolutlely no problems with it. Well, except that it is heavy. So it stays in the truck most of the time.

All my trucks have had B&W turnover gooseneck ball in bed.
I either use B&W 5th wheel companion or PullRite 24k auto slider with custom made B&W floor plate adaptor.
B&W is a great company. Never used anything else.

I have the Curt 16k Slider and like it a lot. The levers are real easy to operate and it provides a very comforting "solid ka-knock" feel when the pin engauges.
