5th wheel Lube Plate

How many use and recommend the use of a lube plate with their 5th wheel hitch?

I do! I grease my pin, but not the coupler.

I use one, have from day one it was the first thing I bought the day I picked up the trailer.
A little WD-40 silicone on the moving parts.

X3. Just grease my jaw clamps under my FW plate and a little on the pin.

Actually we don't. I'll use WD40 on just about everything but at the recommendation of the RV dealer we've been using one of those nylon white rings between the hitch plate and the pin plate. Keeps me from getting grease all over everything.

Maybe I'm confused - but that's what I call a lube plate.

Yes, in the original post I was speaking of the white disc poly lube plate. But, I always read, as well as read into all the replies I get to questions asked. I seem to soak it all in and learn from all who take the time to share.

I have used the white lube plates in the past, but for some reason I had stopped based on some recommendation from someone. But, for the life of me I can't remember why.

Lube plate with an occasional spray of silicone lube on the disc and my 5th wheel hitch. No globs of grease here.

With my Reese revolution pin we are instructed not to use the lube plate, tho I don't know why not. I'd like to use it just to cushion between the two metal surfaces.

We use the lube plate(nylon disc) as well...dealer slapped it on as soon as we picked up the trailer, told us it was the best thing since sliced bread. Works great, no mess, and they last a long time.

I don't understand why they would say not to use it with the Reese Revolution, but I will have to inquire about that one...first time hearing of that.

I have a Curt 20K and it came with a lube plate. Reese must be concerned with the potential thickness of the lube plate and the bottom of the kingpin binding on the jaws?

Use a lube plate, with a spray of white lithium grease on the jaws and back side of the king pin from time to time.

The reason why is only if you engage the wedge on the pin box. The pin box rotates as you know 22" behind the hitch. If you try and use a lube plate and try to engaged your wedge it would not lock in the jaws. If you are not engaging the revolution and using it as just a plain pin box then by all means you could use a lube plate. I guess you could cut one to fit the wedge, but that would also raise your wedge. And you would have to make sure that the cut is in the correct place before hitching up. hope that helps...

Thanks, that's the closest to a legitimate reason as I've heard. There is plenty over vertical room on the pin itself but haven't considered that the wedge may be too far forward to allow the lube plate to seat up against the metal plate. Hummmmmmm. I'll have to look at that.

So with a Reese Revolution that is engaged, are you still putting grease on the hitch plate?

No, but I due use a dry lube on the plate itself. There is really no use in greasing it at all because it will not pivot, thats the reason for lube plates and greasing the plate because of the rotation of the pin box on the plate. The revolution pivots 22" behind the pin. Also there is no lube needed their. When I was in Goshen with OC we had the 2 engineers that designed the Reese Revolution look at mine and his. This is where I got my Information from. I had a concern because it tighten up to where I couldn't push it by hand like new, and also I had 1/4" gap in the back when I loaded. They took it apart checked everything and said that it will tighten up after 500 miles or so. I said the manual say's it will loosen up after 500 miles. They said that was wrong in the manual and they where redoing them. At the end of the whole process he told me point blank believe me "I'm the designer". This guy weight over 300 lbs. and couldn't move mine by hand.
