5th wheel only pictures pulled with 1/2 Ton:
I don't own a 5th wheel but would love to. I own an Aframe pulled with my Durango. Would love to own a 5th wheel but would have to come out of retirement and go back to work to pay for it and a new truck...probably not going to happen.
I just like pictures of 5th wheels and their tow vehicles. I would also like to see how many actually do pull with a 1/2 ton truck.
This is strictly a FUN thing with great pictures of folks 5th wheels and TV.
So here's the deal:
1. Please post pictures of your 5th wheel only being pulled with a 1/2 ton truck.
2. Tell us what you like and don't like about it.
3. Tell us whether you have ever driven in mountains or not and how it handled.
4. Tell us how it handles on flat roads.
6. Tell us if you would trade for a larger TV if you could.

Lots of pictures of what you are looking for on this forum and others. I for one am pulling my 5th wheel with a 1/2 ton Tundra. Been to the Rockies several times and the Cascades twice. My setup does good, so far no white knuckle driving. When it comes time to change trucks I may go to a 3/4 or 1 ton only if we decide on a larger 5th wheel. We plan on keeping our current 5th wheel if all goes well with it, that being the case another Tundra would be in order. The Tundra is a great daily driver and tow vehicle.

We have pulled our 5er for several years now with no problems whatsoever.
No real dislikes
3. Tell us whether you have ever driven in mountains or not and how it handled.
Yes. Handles fine. I will usually set the cruise control for 60MPH--the EcoBeast has no problems snorting up 2-4% grades. Downhill, the cruise control let's the engine brake kick in. We have not been out west, but some of our friends have and reported no problems in the Rockies.
4. Tell us how it handles on flat roads.
Are we towing anything at all?!
6. Tell us if you would trade for a larger TV if you could.
For this 5er? Not really. Keep in mind we ordered this truck from the factory to tow a 5er.
For a while we were considering going to a TH or large 5er like the Riverstone. For that you need a 1T diesel dually.
If you are buying a truck and looking at a 5th wheel you may want to consider a diesel 3/4T though

Have not been in anything that would be classified a mountain, but I have not found any situation the Eco-Boost could not handle. Available truck payload is #2162 with a truck GVWR of 8200. Trailer weighs 10,300 and I was 140 over rear axle and 80 over gross. That has been rectified by leaving somethings at home and moving others toward the rear. MPG runs from 9.1 to 10.8 depending on roads and speed. 60-63 mph is where I run at.
We too like BamaBob will be selling or trading (truck & trailer) in this spring to purchase a motor home.

This picture was taken in Memphis when visiting Graceland. If I do change trucks it would only be to color match the 5r.

--- We love this truck and the way it handles this eXtralite trailer. It has a 6-spd transmission with the two top gears being overdrive.

--- Real mountains, no... too far from north central Texas flat lands. We did tow it from the DFW area to Ruidoso, NM and it handled those hills extremely well. Returning from Goshen, we drove some short run roller coaster hills in Arkansas. On fairly steep downhill runs, the truck would downshift from 6th to 5th (and even down to 4th a few times) to maintain speed without using brakes
4. Tell us how it handles on flat roads.
--- Smooth and steady... much better than our previous truck/TT combo. On a flat road with little headwind and with tow/haul on, it will run in 6th gear and use only 4 cylinders.
6. Tell us if you would trade for a larger TV if you could.
--- No, we ordered this truck from the factory and got exactly what we wanted.

2. Daily driver...really no complaints besides an odd shift time to time.
3. No grades yet only picked it up at the end of January. However trip planned to TN and YS this year so it will have work.
4. Tows great...of course it's back there 😀
5. Yes next truck will be bigger but only because of payload.

Interesting thread. For those posting about their 1/2 ton, if you don't have the TV's specs in your signature please post that info, too, especially your GVWR. Not all 1/2 tons are built equal.

HD Payload Package; 2710 - that is straight from the website and we all know that is a stripped truck without even air conditioning. What does the Yellow Sticker say on your trucks door jam for payload?
The web page showed mine at 4150 but my yellow tag is 3744 and I have a Lariat F350.

Don't know or care what the specs are on my 05 Silverado, 5.3L with 3.23 rear end. Have pulled from FL to Nova Scotia and from NC to Goshen-IL-IA-MO-AR and back thru just about all the mountains east of the Mississippi. Use the truck lane going up the mountains and pass a few, get passed and don't care.

So here's the deal:
1. Please post pictures of your 5th wheel only being pulled with a 1/2 ton truck. Never took a pic of it towing my 5th wheel, sorry.
2. Tell us what you like and don't like about it. I liked the fact that my 1/2 ton Ecoboost engine had the power to pull the 7300 lbs (dry) fiver. I didn't like the fact that the pin weight left very little cargo carrying capacity remaining.
3. Tell us whether you have ever driven in mountains or not and how it handled. It handled ok and adding a roadmaster active suspension greatly improved handling and eliminated squat. Going down steep and long Colorado mountain passes required snub braking and very deliberate speed management. My Ecoboost's engine braking was worse than expected.
4. Tell us how it handles on flat roads. Very well and never had a problem with sway.
6. Tell us if you would trade for a larger TV if you could. I traded my F150 for an F350 about a month ago and the difference is incredible. The F350 doesn't even know there is a fifth wheel back there. Fuel economy is better towing and unloaded than my F150 EB (3.73 axle, max tow package, Platinum options, 6.5' bed). The F350's extra mass, stronger suspension, and doubled cargo carrying capacity allows me to tow with much more ease than the F150. Less "tail wagging the dog" with the f350 versus the f150.
