5th wheel pin box

We have a Chevy 1ton crew cab, installed Draw-Tite and Reese Signature Series Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Trailer Hitches. We are towing the XLR 39x12 toy hauler 5th wheel, we have smashed the top of our bed a few times. Manual shows different pin box that allows you to change height, we talked with technical and described ours and they said NO, don't change it. What options do we have? Killing our truck, and now edge of trailer. Not always on level ground, use off road, not much clearance. Any suggestions? Thanks

Lower the truck, raise the trailer. How much clearance do you have between the trailer and the bed rails when sitting on level ground? Most advise 6 inches as minimum. You might want more.
