5th wheel tailgate

Husband is looking to buy a new 5th Wheel tailgate hitch. He bought his first one in 1995 which was steel/aluminum (don't know which) but when he bought a new truck Chevy changed the measurement and he had to buy a new tailgate - they are now plastic. And they are the same price as the metal ones??!!?? (around $400). It finally fell apart and we are now looking for a new tailgate. Do they sell the "metal" ones anymore - seems they are all plastic. Anyone have some info on where to look for a metal one?

This is the one I got after destroying my stock tailgate.

Local dealer delt with them and I was in a bind time wise so had no chance to look online for a better price. I paid $508.

I bought the Stromberg-Carlson when they had them on sale at Camping World. Being from Canada, all things RV cost a King's Ransom up here (I think in Canada, it was about 3x the Camping World price) but there's a CW very close to a route I take in the US twice a year (they had sold their last one, but couriered on from another location at no cost to me). Its very sturdy and weighs about 1/3 of what the original tailgate weighs. I highly recommend them.

I put a fifth wheel tailgate on when brought the new Silverado and somehow I have still managed to hit it a few times. It still looks good and I had it painted to match the truck.
