If your getting a Rockwood you don't need a slider. The Rockwood comes with a Reese revolution hitch with works with 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 size box. Look on you tube for a video on it.

We don't have a slider. We use the Fifth Airborne with Sidewinder and Reese Elite in the truck bed. Pulling a Salem Hemisphere QBUD. No problems with this combo.

Your $$$ your choice. Enough said and I do have a slider hitch. I have had one since my first 5er purchase.

3 types, the two you list and those that have a Reese Revolution Sidewinder that don't need them.

One last thing to consider here in this discussion. You can check the cab clearance in a nice level parking lot and maybe you get 90 degrees. But go to some campground where it is uphill to the camping stop or up and down and see what happens to the clearance. When the trailer is going up hill and the truck down your clearance goes way down. This is one of the few times you may need a slider, and of course if you do not have one you cannot use one, of course if you notice the problem you can always more to another campground. If you do not notice it you may have a breeze from where the back window used to be.

I have a Dodge MegaCab, with the short bed. We have a motorhome now but, we bought the slider and never used it. Just be careful on sharp corners or backing up, it could and will hit the cab of your truck. I know from experience. A few inches over... I would have needed a new back window.

My 2015 is a 2500HD with Double Cab (aka Extended Cab) and it's a 6.6 ft bed (the Crew Cab is a 6.5 ft bed). My hitch is the Andersen Ultimate Aluminum Fifth Wheel and my fiver is the Wildcat 295RSX with a sculpted front cap. I have tested a 90 degree jack turn in a parking lot and also in an off level campground. I towed down to the base of Palo Duro Canyon with it's steep grade and sharp switchbacks. No slider, no problem.
The Andersen weighs 32 pounds, the B&W I believe is around 200 pounds. With a 2500HD Diesel/Allison and even though the 295RSX is classed Ultra Light, payload is still an issue I have to manage. I did a CAT on a 2000 mile trip this month and had I gone with the B&W I would have had to leave the Generator and some stuff at home.
As a bonus, the Andersen was a lot less expensive than the B&W and it tows like a

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the aluminum ultimate hitch a gooseneck ball hitch, not a king pin/locking jaw set up. If so, that means you have the added cost of a different king pin box

I also tow my 5-er with a short bed, no slider (B&W Companion.) For the most part, it works well, but you can jacknife any combo--slider or not. I had an "small" incident similar to OldTool2, but I didn't put that big of a dent in my cab, didn't damage the front cap at all, and didn't break any glass (I was lucky.) Backing out of a truck stop parking spot, at night, in a tight spot in the lot. Bottom line--keep an eye on the angle, and you'll be fine, slider or no slider.

I have a '14 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 bed towing a Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8285IKS 5er that comes with the Reese Revolution pin box. This pin box is amazing and seems to give plenty of clearance. Just traded my 30' bumper pull for the 5er at Myrtle Beach and drove home to Indiana. What a difference!! I love the 5er!!

I too have the Revolution pin box coupled to a Reese 16k pro. F250 crew 6.5 bed works like a dream no slider needed doesn't even come close and can do 90 deg.

Actually 4. The forth type knows the limits of their rig and just don't hit their cab without a slider.

Get the slider. Might not need it for this trailer but if you replace the trailer you might wish you had it.

The stupid part is that you kept cutting it until you hit the cab, not that you didn't use the slider. It's amazing what you can do if you put the shifter in "D" and pull up foot before you hit the cab.
