A little overweight on Cat Scale

So I was curious and pulled into the Cat Scale. Weight on the truck axles was 10,400 lbs compared to 10,000 GVWR of the truck. 18,840 overall vs. 23,000 GCWR. All I can say that it is what it is. Tows level and smooth.

When the golf cart is not in the back of the Vengeance and the RDS auxillary tank is full in the bed of the truck, I am overweight by a few hundred lbs.

It pulls great and very smooth. I'm underweight on my tires so I just ride along. With the golf cart in the back and as the fuel consumption brings the levels down, we're back in the black.

I know weight ratings are important and gross abuse is just stupid. But at the same time, how often do we hear about a truck breaking down on the highway because the camper was too heavy? We all see those rigs quite often but the people make it to their destination every day.

Two thoughts--My wife is losing weight and I am finding it. If I die 2 years early because I ate a pig's butt, so be it.

Same thing here

I found out the same thing here. My company actually manufacturers the scales so I have access to one at any time.

I had weighed my truck and toy hauler empty on the way home from buying it and had about 1,000# of cargo I could add. Who would have thought it would add up so quick.

Stopped in again on the way home from a race fully loaded and was at 13,740 GCWR and according to to Dodge shouldn't go over 13,000 with the 3.55 gears I have (it bumps up to 14,000 if I would have the 3.92).

I was also reading 7,140 on the GVWR and shouldn't be over 6,650.

I would have never guessed as the thing towed fantastic, kept the cruise at 60 MPH and it never went over 3000 RPM, and averaged 10 MPG.

Thing is, I don't have a whole lot I can throw out of the truck or toy hauler. Maybe one of the spares (I carry two), one of the two TV's, or a couple cases of pop/water. All tanks on trailer were empty, full tank of gas on truck. Maybe the wife will have to go

My first thought was the wife but I see you covered that in your last sentence.

Been there, done that. Years ago I had a pickup with a manual transmission. The same truck with an automatic had a 3000 pound higher tow rating, so I never worried about pulling a trailer that was a few hundred pounds over the max. Ended up on the side of the interstate at night with the tranny in pieces. Expensive lesson learned.

Manual vs automatic

Sounds like a Ford Ranger.

I'm over by 200lbs on GVW. Big deal. I'd have no problem being over by 500-600lbs. I'm under the RAWR by 1100lbs, under the tow rating by 3400lbs and under the GVCWR by 3000lbs. Also way under the tire max load rating as I replaced the 3000lb 245/7017s with 275/65/18s. Went from 6000lbs combined to 6830lbs combined.
None of it changes any truck sticker stuff, but in the real world the combo handles perfect. Stops great and is rock solid.
Sometimes too much is made of trying to be perfect on ratings. My truck is a 2500 and the same as a 3500 except rear springs. If I had 4.10s instead of 3.73s I be under GCVWR by way more.
