My F-250 6.2 gasser hauls our 40'/5er with lots of power to spare flattens the hills from Ontario to Florida, Texas, AZ and everything I'm between.

Actually I impressed with the mileage towing I average 9 - 10 mpg at 60 - 70/mph empty or not towing the 5'er about 15 mpg
Although I did consider a diesel after factoring in the extra cost for a diesel including the high maintenance costs it would take me about 7 years to break even based on the anticipated fuel savings. No regrets fory choice of vehicles

Maintenance is higher! To me well worth the option expense and maintenance costs. I enjoy driving my F250 enough to leave the SUV at home and use it as my daily driver! I'll put 50,000 or more miles on annually and half will be towing our 5er. I get around 18 MPG close to home and 11 towing 11,000#. No such thing as a mountain, they are turned into knolls. The engine brake is a wonderful perk as well. Is a diesel required with my application ~ no,,,, but it is worth it to me. Trades with the diesel get the money spent on the option back plus as these trucks are highly desired. I generally trade every 2 years just before 100,000 mileson the odometer.

If I'd had no preference for color and was very flexible on options- which I wasn't'- I could have bought the SRW 1 ton. But I would have still paid a significant amount of money for options I didn't really want. With that being said, I saved ~$3K going with the 3/4 ton even though the 1 ton is only $1K or so higher per the sticker. On top of that, mine has the camper package, so it's actually IDENTICAL to the 1 ton SRW. I just couldn't justify spending an extra $3K for an IDENTICAL truck with a bigger number on a sticker, so I have an F250. For much of the year, however, you are correct.

Driving that number of miles would make the diesel a viable option for sure it would take me about 6 years to get that many miles of course a lot of my summer driving is on two wheels

I'm in Colorado Springs. Not sure why here, but diesel fuel prices I've seen at every location since I got here are about a dime a gallon cheaper than gasoline. One station was about .15 per gallon cheaper.

Summer in Ontario is beautiful. When I lived in PA we visited often. Theater in Toronto surpassed NYC in talent, cost, and safety. Sadly, summer does not last long there.

Yeah the gas here in ON is about 40 Cents less per gallon but usually it is about the same price as gasoline. If the price was consistent at this price then the diesel would be a viable option for sure

This is the way I justified diesel option. The diesel option runs 8300 over gas but with the discounts I got on the truck I paid around 7200 for the diesel option. If you go to the NADA used car guide it says on 3 year old truck the diesel options adds 8150 to the used price of the truck. So I paid 7200 and 40 to 60 bucks more for oil change I still in the black and would stand to make a few bucks.

I see the 1 ton and raise to a 2 ton 6x6. I would stay with the 3/4 ton with that much weight.

The OP should hold out for the 2018 F375 triple rear wheel...just in case.
