Exactly. If they didn't state that, someone would put 5,000 pounds in the bed of their truck, because, after all, you are running air bags with a rated capacity of 5K.

No I'm not. Read what I stated again. I am saying that if your truck came with 275/55-20 tires stock and you change to a 285/65-20, you've deviated from stock. And a case could very easily be made if you were in an accident that by deviating from the stock size tire you changed the handling characteristics of you're vehicle which caused the wreck. How do you think oversize tires affect braking performance? What about aggressive tread? I simply find it odd that so many on here see the payload capacity printed on a manufacturers sticker as legally binding, while ignoring other VERY common modifications people make to vehicles that can adversely affect handling. When I went to LT D rated tires, Discount Tire made me sign a waiver stating I knew these deviated from the stock P rated tires, even though they were the same size. They were covering their butts even though I was installing a BETTER and MORE CAPABLE tire!!!!!!

I installed new coil springs with a 50% greater load capacity than the stock ones in lieu of the air bags. I have heard of the air bags will leak over time and I figured that the springs were mechanical so there was less to go wrong. I am using a E-4 weight distribution hitch and it works well so far.

It's not just CYA, it's the truth. If you want "true" higher payload out of a little 1500 truck you would need to swap axles to start. The little outer axle bearings can only take so much of a load before it eats the hard face surface off the axle and then you have bearing failure. I've seen it plenty of times where guys have the attitude that if the truck can pull it it must be o.k. These are the same guys that I end up putting new axle shafts and bearings because of the overload.

Then there's braking too. Look at the difference from a 1500 or f150 compared to its big brothers' rotors and calipers.
Let's not forget about the rest of the driveline either. Just look at a 1500 u joint compared to a 3500 and anyone can tell which is rated for higher payload.
Throwing air bags on a truck does not increase payload. But hey, it's your truck.

Should we take the same approach to the WC and WD limits printed on a bolt-on hitch receiver? If the hitch says 5000, is that just a CYA statement, and I can load it to whatever I want? If yes, how much is OK? 5500? 6000?
How much exactly does a set of airbags increase a truck's payload, if the airbags themselves state not to exceed their ratings?

MANY farmers in my area load them to 10K plus regularly for years on end hauling hay, tractors, feed, etc. and I've never seen one fail. So, to answer your question, 10K+ is apparently OK. I'll see your and raise you a .

I have the Firestone airbags. Have had the fill by the license plate but now have the fill inside the cab. I highly recommend this. I run about 60 lbs but am pulling a 5er. I run about 5 lbs when unloaded. Maf. Recommendations.

I have the air lift 1000 bags on my Ram 1500. They help bring the rear up some to help counter my bottom mount hitch coupler. the bottom mount coupler plus my propride hitch gives me very little ground clearance over bumps and dips.

I like them a lot
