I took a look at the compressor specs on the P/C web site. Specs say it pulls 10 amps. Does your truck push 1000 watts? My Ford has a 400 watt limit...

I don't think it pulls 10 amps. I looked a couple of these up and at least one of them said "AMP Capacity = 10amps." I have no idea what "AMP Capacity means."

I have two similar compressors, a Campbell Heuser like this one:

And a Fini like this one:

The CH says it pulls 2 amps and the Fini says 1.8 amps.

So I strongly suspect the Porter-Cable one pulls about 2 amps, not 10 amps.

However, 2 amps at 120 VAC is 240 watts. Too much for the 150 watt inverter limit in my Silverado, but should be OK for your 400 watt unit.

I had low tire on my RV this spring and didn't want to move the 5er without putting air in it. I don't have power where I store my 5er so headed out to find a cheap 12volt compressor and found a Black and Decker for 50 bucks that was rated to 160 psi that was 12 Volt/120 Volt. I wasn't impressed with the 12 volt operation but worked but the next time I used it I used the 120 volt option and was impressed how well it worked. Not a bad deal for 50 bucks just to use to top off a tire.

I have used a 120 volt Emglo for years to run my small finish nail guns. Works perfectly for tires and toys in our toy hauler.
