Not exactly sure where this post belongs. But, I was told yesterday by the DMV office while getting renewal on tags that if you own a 2500 series GM, Dodge etc or bigger as well as the F-250 Ford or bigger that you need to carry a weight proof document with you IN your vehicle. It seems a new law allows Troopers to stop and weigh these size vehicles. BUT, if you have this paper, which she gave me, show it to the Trooper and be on your way.
The agent provided that document free to me. Does anyone have any additional information on this? It was all new to me but she seemed very knowledgeable about it.

I believe that is correct aout the weight variations and fee for tags. My F 250 came in just below the 10K weight. The form also adds the requirement to include weights for any towed trailer if..towing to an event where prize money may be awarded such as horse show, trade show, fishing tournament, It is definitely a revenue related issue.

Yes because that would make you commercial makes sense. I'll look up the form, curiosity has me.

it's also quite possible that the clerk simply took your truck for some type of commercial vehicle, though you obviously are not using it in that capacity. Unless you are providing a commercial towing of someone else's goods for a profitable enterprise, it's highly unlikely anything you are towing or doing with your 'RV' will somehow interest the authorities, in any state, not just yours.
sounds to me like someone has just provided you with 'mis information'... as a weight ticket or statement is for commercial purposes, not personal usage of your vehicle.
Bama Rambler, I have also owned F 250's for over 15 years and never heard of this law here in Alabama. I made this post for information to other BAMA folks to look into. I believe it was just passed into law in 2018. I have never been made aware of this in past tag renewals but was this week when renewing. The agent seemed very knowledgeable about it and the required form is in their system. Again, it was an FYI post. I have my form she said I needed "just in case". Regards and Roll Tide

Well, to the other post reply's, this form cost me NOTHING, it was provided free by the agent there at DMV. Personally I am glad she made me aware of the new law and gave me the form FREE, completed by DMV so I can avoid any weigh in situations. Skepticism can be good, but not every post is wrong if someone disagrees with it.

Not disagreeing just questioning. Just would be interesting to hear the rest of the story by being able to see form just how it reads. BTW way if you have a copier and a computer you can scan the doc and save to a file. Then when you post go to lower part of post where it says manage attachment click on it find file and add upload and close box submit post and bam its there. Later RJD

To me that is only for commercial vehicles for hire and for when your towing something to win money. Other than that. Towing rv for pleasure , this corn not needed
I agree with you dodgemark. I am just glad the clerk brought this to my attention and gave me proof of weight . At least it may keep me from having to lose time being weighed by some overzealous smokey in back road Alabama (which I travel often) And yes, we still have numerous "speed trap" areas here.
