All Terrain or Highway tread?

I'm putting Michelins on my Ram 2500. It has the basic M+S "hiway" tread now and I was debating going with an All Terrain tread. Price is about the same. Wondering if the All Terrain will be noisier / not last as long. Current set has 70k miles and is still going strong. Only replacing because of long, cross country trip coming up. It's a 2wd so I don't do any off roading but thought the A/T would be nice for when I do occasionally go off the beaten path.

If it's not broke, don't try to fix it!

Stay with what has obviously done a fine job for you.

As someone who bought more aggressive tread on my F 150 the noise made it sound like a old diesel truck! You mention 2WD so sticking with highway all season type tread is a good idea.

Thanks to all for feedback, feel good about hanging with what has worked very well.

I had Nitto Grapplers on mine for a week. I was told they were quiet on the hiway... they weren't. They screwed up so badly on this deal that I got different tires from a different company today. I went back to a hiway tread, and they're quiet. I have 4X4 but only use it when absolutely necessary.

Another thing to consider is A/T and mud tires pick up and hold a lot of gravel which eventually gets kicked back at the trailer. As a counterpoint I would not want to run highway tires off road or in the snow much.

I replaced some Michelin ATs with BFG KO2's and lost 1-1.5 mpg. A little noisier but I have a CTD so it's a little noisy anyway compared to a gasser version. Might notice more noise in a quiet gasser.
I'll be going back to an AT tire next time around.

I had the AT2 on my TV - everything is still stock and rotated/balanced regularly. A couple of weeks ago while towing I had a blowout on right front of TV. Truck started shaking violently and a couple of secs later 'pow'. After calling around I found some Michelin M/S (this replaced the older M/S2 I think) the next morning. Definitely a highway tire with deeper tread. The ride while towing home seemed comparable or maybe a little better than the the AT2. The blown tire had 43k miles and 5/32 of tread on it. All 4 of the stock tires had identical remaining tread and wore very even. I liked the AT2 but feel I should have gotten more out of it. It is hard to comment yet on replacement tire as I have only been a couple of hundred miles on them.

I just took Michelin AT2 off brand new 3500 and replaced with Michelin Defender LTX. The defenders have replaced the LTX MS/2. 3rd set of Michelin in this line and couldn't be happier.

I'm a BIG fan of lifted trucks and aggressive tires. That said, I bought my truck to be a tow'er. I did want to make sure I could drive off pavement without getting stuck in wet grass though.

I went with the Michelin LTX AT/2 and have been VERY happy with them; highly recommend

Those are stock on my Ford. Good tires and in snow I made out just fine.
