Am I crazy or...
Can I really have 4 feet of bike rack hang off the front of my truck? I am aware certain circumstances could be problem especially blind intersections and such. But my other bike rack does not hold my bike frame well at all. I simply don't trust it.

I don't think your crazy. Not something I think I would like to do based on having something sticking out in front of me. See it no different for distance out though then many of the V plows I see and would not be as wide.

Good point on the plow but brings up a valid point. How well do your headlights do and can others see your blinkers? Plows have higher mount lights and blinkers. One maybe two bikes at most for me but to each his own. Make sure you don't end up somewhere else on this forum.

Not crazy but not ideal. I'd have a couple concerns.
1) Like others said, does it affect your headlights and turn signals, especially if you drive at dusk or later, (is it legal?), and
2) It will be something to consider for stopping. Hopefully you wouldn't be in a position to get that close in an emergency stop situation. At least you can control that risk better with them hanging on the front of your TV rather than having them hanging from the rear of your trailer where someone might run into your back end.
Personally, I'd look into a roof top rack if you're physically able to handle putting the bikes up there. I carry ours in the bed of the truck but it prevents me from being able to close the tonneau cover for when it's raining. DW will not allow the bikes in the trailer because we often camp at provincial parks with no grass, just sand/dirt. I presume you don't want them in the truck bed for the same reason.

I used a platform on the front hitch. Two cross country trips and many 1000's of miles, no issues.

I have considered the headlights I get a small amount of glare from bikes but it seems well lit otherwise. Daytime turn signals are a little iffy. I am trying to hold off on the roof rack wanting to put kayaks up there. I can't get the TH until retirement, wife's rule. Must be mortgage free first bah bah bah. They both happen at the same time not planned that way but...
Yes I am curious about "legal"not overly concerned. Bed is to loaded for bikes especially with the short box. I kick myself a lot for not getting the long box, next truck def.

Some states wold say your vision was obstructed adn you would receive a ticket.
Why not simply use the same rack in a ball carrier mounted in a hitch on the rear of your camper? Wouldn't that be as sturdy and secure as that one mounted on the front of your truck?

This^^^^
Check your state. It is illegal here in Virginia. I have seen others do it here in VA and I was considering it until I checked with a couple law enforcement officers.

Here you could / would have issues. (PA).
Can't tell but if it blocks the headlights / turn lights it is a no go (does not matter day or night, cannot be blocked or obstructed in ANY way). It may also obstruct your forward vision as well.

I am pretty sure that this type of setup has already been beaten to death.

Not legal in TX. I imagine most states are similar. No vehicle here can have a load extending more than 3 feet in front.

I have been carrying the kids bikes in front like that for years. The only people I have heard have a problem are the front-bike-rack-police. [emoji846]
