Where do you guys buy the safety chains? Would like to install them.
I bought mine through eBay from Trends Auto. They are real Andersen parts.
They've gone up about $8 since I bought mine 18 months ago.

BTW, Andersen spells their name with an E in the last syllable -- AndersEn in case you want to do a "Search".

Opps your right. Sorry about that error. I even went to EBAY spelling it that way. I went back to EBay and just noticed the steel is Anderson and the aluminum one is Andersen. Hum good catch, I'll watch closer. It's gotta be a typo for the steel one that I never noticed before.

John,

I have the Ford Factory Fifth Wheel/gooseneck prep in my truck. Andersen sells two types of hitch. One for the standard rail install, another for using a gooseneck mount. You install your gooseneck ball in the truck, the Andersen attaches to the ball.

Does anyone know if you have to take the bed liner out? I am going to use the Andersen Al ultimate with my new Sandpiper 360PDEK. TV F350 srw. 6.7

I believe they don't recommend using a plastic bed liner. I have a rubber one that works just fine with it.

The Andersen company is great if you call. They will answer any questions and are very responsive.

I have a Factory spray in bedliner and have no issues. I would call Andersen Hitch. Before/after I purchased their hitch I called with questions, always got great customer service.

I have the stock GMC rubber bed mat. It's about 3/4" thick and I think it absorbs some road (could be my imagination ;-. Andersen said no problem.

With this post, let me add that I also use a Curt 4" ball extension. The Curt replaces the flip-over ball with one that is mounted to a steel plate and basically moves the ball 4" back toward the tailgate. I wanted more cab clearance but did not want a slider. Why this note is important is because the Curt also raises the ball position.

If you look at the Andersen videos etc., you will note there are two pins in the setup. The top pin holds the ball into the top of the pyramid. The lower pin locks the frame onto your bed ball. Each pin has a cotter latch that keeps the pin from sliding out. Nothing special here, that's the way all pins of this type work.

If you do as I did and choose a Curt extension, then you'll find that the thickness of the Curt means the holes for the lower pin now line up inside the center pyramid tube, basically, you can't slide that std. lower pin in (it's too long). Andersen has a brilliant fix for this. They will send you a shorter pin. You place the tube over the ball, insert the pin, then lower the pyramid down onto the tube. The entire pin holes slide up into the center tube and the cotter clip is no longer needed. You then tighten your top 2 bolts and 1 front bolt and you're good to go.

So....if you plan to use a Curt 4" ball extension, be sure to tell Andersen so they can send you the clip-less pin. It's free. It's easy. It secures the pyramid the same.

I called Andersen about factory bed liner. It has to go. After everything is install, I think I will cut out square hole in the bed liner to go around hitch and put liner back in.

I just bought myself a new truck and it came with a pop up brand goose neck hitch. I am looking for a fifth wheel adapter now. I've heard good things about this Andersen hitch. Is it still fairly easy to hook up the camper? I'm still pretty new to hauling fifth wheel and liked how easy it was to back up to the plate on the standard hitch.

Pretty easy to do. I started out on the Andersen so I can't compare it to the traditional hitch set up. Takes a little finesse to line the ball up but after some practice it is easy. You need to regularly torque down the three bolts on the hitch after hooking up with the ball adapter so there is a little more work to use but very easy to remove from the bed. You also need to check the pin adapter periodically to make sure those bolts are torqued to spec as well. I keep a click style torque wrench in the truck with me. There are definitely trade offs but to me the price was right and it is really smooth to pull with.

The Andersen hitch is a great way to tow your rv. At 32 pounds, and quick and easy install and removal it's hard to beat. When you are done just hang on the wall. Tows smooth and easy to hook up. Great hitch solution and has a rear offset of a few inches also.

You must be mistaken about the ease of use. Everybody who doesn't have one swears it takes a couple three days to hook up if you can get it at all.

I realize there's one(?) bolt that you need to loosen to remove hitch from truck bed, but as far as the others go, can some kind of threadlock be used when first assembled to prevent them loosening up? Might be a question for the Andersen folks(?).

You tighten the three bolts when you install and use the hitch. Takes all of 30 seconds. I check them after use and they stay tight. Connecting is easy, you can see the ball. Usually get it on the first try.

I purchased a torque wrench for only this purpose and haven't had any issue with them loosening up when I torque them to manufacture specs.

I will double check on our next trip this spring. However if I find that they are actually loosening I think the bolts are long enough to add a stop nut on the two front bolts to help lock them in place.
